Today we’d like to introduce you to Shana Bryant.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Shana. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My journey started when I became a teenage single parent at 16. I was blessed to have a support system of both women and men that nurtured, loved and supported both me and my son. Much of my 20’s were focused on raising my son to be a productive part of society and that meant being an active parent with the many activities he participated in. You could typically find me on the sideline playing the role of “team mom” helping the coaches with communicating with parents, whose bringing snacks…etc., This was something I enjoyed and looking back I’m positive helped me develop some of the same skills I use today in my business.
Once my son was in his teenage years I begin to think a lot about what was my passion and purpose, “Who was Shana?”, along with being a mother. What I knew was I enjoyed inspiring and empowering young girls and women, telling people what to which now translated to leading others and I am good at it, I also knew I really enjoyed planning and executing high impact events. I had the opportunity to participate in leadership programs, joined executive committees, volunteered with nonprofits and received both my associate and bachelor degrees, which combined took 12 years. In my 30’s I found my voice, my purpose and learned to truly love myself! I know these have everything to do with accomplishing my dreams and goals!
Over the last several years I discovered vision boards and use them regularly. They have been great motivators to help visualize big, small, short and long term goals for my own personal and professional life. This is why I started my consulting business that focuses on helping individuals, entrepreneurs and non-profits identify a vision with a goal setting focus.
Has it been a smooth road?
Life is anything but smooth!
I had to grow up really fast because I was responsible for another human being. I struggled with being a single mother and being angry for many years. I struggled with not being able to hang with my friends and be a “regular” teenager. I struggled with what society was saying about teenage black girls having babies. Fortunately, I have parents that created a bubble that protected both me and my son from “societies stigmas” of what myself and son would become. My parents instilled in me a strong work ethic, sense of community and family first values.
My most recent struggle or setback is what pushed me to become an entrepreneur. For almost a decade I had done volunteer work executing others visions and goals. During 2015 I had 2 feet injuries including a torn Achilles that kept me in a boot over 9 months of the year and 18 months of recovery. These injuries literally forced me to stop. They also allowed me lots to time to decide what I was going to do when I was healthy again. I knew I had worked with and for others long enough that I had mastered enough project management, event planning and leadership skills to capitalize off of them. It became very clear that it was time for me to be paid for my time and skill set.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Shana Bryant Consulting story. Tell us more about the business.
I consider myself a “Task Master” and specialize in project, conference and event planning along with vision board workshops for staff retreats, professional and personal development events for both adults and youth. Working with individuals, entrepreneurs and nonprofits to strategize, plan and execute their visions. Working with my clients includes vision brainstorming, prioritizing task lists and holding them accountable by creating timelines and deliverables to meet their goals. I enjoy the logistics of planning an event and then being able to execute what appears to be a “flawless” event.
Something I’m proud of and brings me constant joy is knowing I’m able to help people take someone’s vision and turn it into a manageable goal they can accomplish in a timely fashion. I literally get to help people live their dreams.
