Meet Sabrina Geraghty of The Enchanted Taurus in Easthampton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sabrina Geraghty.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
The Enchanted Taurus became what it is today because of my passion for art. It gives me a much needed outlet to cope with my anxiety and express myself. Growing up as a child, in foster care, things weren’t the easiest and anything art really drew me in. I think that’s how it all started. Throughout high school it was hard to really decide what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. I don’t know if that was just because I was going through so much in life or I didn’t really have a stable home at the time. I was studying electrical in school but I knew I didn’t want to wear steal toed boots for the rest of my career. I’m a sandal person! After high school I took up an apprenticeship to learn the art of tattooing and at the age of 19 I had become fully licensed to tattoo, as I thought this would be a great job for me because I was always painting or drawing. I soon realized my heart just wasn’t fully into the tattooing profession so I decided to go to beauty school. I attended Kay Harvey beauty academy and throughout school we learned the basics but I always found myself researching and learning more. I would experiment on myself with hair color and makeup. The first time I really dug in and discovered the passion creating makeup looks stirred in me was when I entered a Halloween contest at beauty school and won. I created a purple and black glitter Medusa. I’ll never forget what it felt like to win the contest with a look I created. I graduated and I worked in a salon doing only hair for some time. I would just do makeup on myself and post pictures. When Halloween came around a lot my friends would request certain themed makeup for themselves or a friend. That’s when I really got into it and I just really let go and immersed myself in it.

Has it been a smooth road?
Every road has bumps unfortunately. I have recently been diagnosed with pseudo tumor cebrei. This happens when the pressure around your brain increases causing headaches and vision issues. It’s called a false brain tumor because it mimics a tumor. I have been on multiple medications and the side effects haven’t been pleasant. This condition also leads to optic nerve swelling. I was out of work for a bit and I do have future appointments that I will miss some work for, but all in all I am staying positive and working my way over those “bumps in the road”.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into The Enchanted Taurus story. Tell us more about the business.
The Enchanted Taurus is a “by appointment only” studio. I say this because I like to work with my clients on a personal level. I want to give the attention to them that they deserve. I specialize in hair and makeup. I offer many different services related to hair, makeup, and photography. I wanted to add Boudoir to my services because it’s such a great way to boost confidence and to just let go. I really feel it will empower you. I offer makeup classes for every day wear or if you’re looking to get really artistic you can set up a group class with your friends and do my Live Canvas with a Twist ( It’s my fantasy makeup Body Painting class with professional photos ) All classes are instructed and everyone gets individual help if needed. No artistic skill is required it is meant to just come have fun and play! I am best known for my fantasy/creative makeup. I usually come up with my own designs but I do get requests from movies and other characters as inspiration for my looks. My most recent looks are from Tim Burton films. I am very proud of how far I have come. I’ve always felt in my heart that I have to strive towards a goal, any goal. It turns out makeup just clicked for me. I take great pride in all my work whether or not the “look” gets a hundred “likes” or I never post it and it stays in my personal portfolio, I always look back and strive to improve. I am my own worst critic. Some of the work I was most reluctant to put out there gets the most positive feedback. It’s hard to set yourself apart from the crowd these days. What I have done to step out of the crowd is created a pleasant, comfortable and, most importantly, private atmosphere for my clients.

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
The salon industry has exploded where I am located. The competition list is long. The big downside is the lack of clientele to fill those seats. I don’t think the industry has anywhere to go but in a new direction. That’s where I am trying to find a path for The Enchanted Taurus. I am terrible at predicting the future. My goal is to continue learning and improving so that no matter what the future holds I will be ready to adapt and push my skills.
