Meet Rusty Dillon of The Bee Hunter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rusty Dillon.

Rusty, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This was a summer job for me during my college years back in the early 90’s in Pittsburgh, PA. Kept with it after graduation for a couple of years. Then I moved back home to Massachusetts and worked as a materials manager for several years. I missed being outside, and meeting new people every day. Was looking for an opportunity to work for myself. So, my wife and I decided to start our own company. Looking back, it was the best decision I ever made.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Yes things have mostly been smooth. We’ve been fortunate that we had great mentors with my original employers, who were (and are) able to offer some great advice.

When I opened, I had thought to stay in central mass, but the demand inside of route 128 was so overwhelming that we added an office in Natick.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about The Bee Hunter – what should we know?
We specialize in the control and removal of stinging insects. Wasps, yellow jackets, hornets and bees. We will always transplant honey bees safely when possible. I have several friends who are beekeepers throughout the state and I donate any honeybees captured to them.

I am proud of the fact that we have won the Angie’s List super service award for the last three years.

What sets us apart is that we ONLY do stinging insects, so we have lots of experience with that. We are also able to respond to most situations either the same day or the next day. When people have a yellow jacket nest on their property, they are generally happily surprised when I tell them that I can be there that quickly.

We work every day including holidays from Patriot’s Day until Veteran’s Day. Someone will always respond to your call the same day.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
We have found that people really appreciate the excellent, prompt customer service that we provide.
