Meet Ron Barnes of Cloud4Causes in Franklin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ron Barnes.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Ron. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Cloud4Causes is part of HMEA. HMEA provides services to 4000 adults and children in 110 communities in Massachusetts with disabilities. Cloud4Causes was born out of extra capacity. HMEA had applied for and received multiple Cisco grants. Some of those grants provided us with extra network capacity such as our VPN or Virtual Private Network. Also, through the Cisco grant process we met a Cisco engineer that assisted us with multiple deployments. That engineer now works for us!! We also have a unique relationship with Dell (EMC previously). They host our Walk/Run fundraiser each year.

Through them, we were granted network storage that has allowed us the extra capacity for our services.

Cloud4Causes was established in 2012 with the intent of helping other non-profits get “The Best Technology…. from people you can understand, at prices you can afford!”

Today, Cloud4Causes continues to grow by providing cloud services, vpn services, technical support, content management support, social media support and more to Massachusetts and Rhode Island based non-profits. Our unique position as a non-profit allows us to “speak the language” of other non-profits. We personally know the challenges and opportunities that non-profits face and we are in position to help guide them to success.

Cloud4Causes has also recently added a former Cisco Network Engineer to our staff further strengthening our position as a leader in technology for non-profits.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
We are a non-profit and we have HMEA to focus on first. We have to balance that with our customer needs. Also….we are in the NPO sector. Some “get” technology and some don’t.

Cloud4Causes – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We are a human service NPO providing network services to other NPOs. We speak their language, we feel their pain. We know the challenges that many NPOS face when it comes to technology, staffing and daily operations. We’re proud of our ability to work with other NPOs who may otherwise be facing large technology struggles and antiquated means of operating which usually means costlier.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Our ultimate success is that the companies we provide services to ultimately provide better service to the people they support. Also….providing cost effective solutions that help is quite important in the NPO sector.
