Today we’d like to introduce you to Rebecca Pinsky.
Rebecca, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
From my earliest years, I loved to help others plan and organize. By the time I was in elementary school I was already excitedly helping my – very creative, but very disorganized- best friend by straightening her room and planning her outfits for school for the week so she could spend more time on her art and drawings. So it only seems natural that when I graduated from college I began my career as a personal/executive assistant, organizing the daily lives of busy people and helping them maximize their time most efficiently.
Working in both New York City and Boston, I was always looking for new and interesting ways I could help support these executives. This desire to provide extraordinary support ultimately allowed me to apply my planning and organizing skills to gain diverse experience in the lifestyle concierge arena such as personal shopping and styling, luxury travel planning, corporate meeting and event planning, party planning and home and office organization. While l loved helping executives in a corporate setting, I really wanted to use my skills to help professionals in my local community who also needed these same services for their home or small business. With this desire and some much-needed support and encouragement of my family, I left my job in corporate America late last year and started Concierge on The Hill.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building a small business is no easy task and there are definitively obstacles along the way. For me, the biggest challenge was committing to the new business and going for it 100%. I wasn’t sure if it was a courageous move or a crazy move; I felt like I was trying to determine my own personal Sharpe ratio. But having a strong network of family and friends whose advice I trusted completely was pivotal in helping me make the leap to start my own business. In fact, I remember the specific moment when I decided I would go for it; I asked my cousin what she would do if she was me and she said, “I’d give it my best shot. If I fail, then I can pick up the pieces and start over. If I don’t try, I’ll live the rest of my life regretting it.” It was at that moment I committed 100%.

Concierge on The Hill is a Boston-based lifestyle services provider. We offer party & event planning services, personal shopping & styling services, as well as in-home organizing services.
Concierge on The Hill is much more than a business and my clients are much more than people utilizing the services of the business. Concierge on The Hill is a family. I make deep long-term investments in each of my clients and provide much more than the services listed above. For example, if I am organizing your home, it is more than just making things pretty and neat, it’s about making a space in which you feel relaxed, aren’t overwhelmed by and hopefully proud of too- a space that allows you to engage in an activity, not a space that holds the clutter you don’t want to look at. If I am styling a client with a new wardrobe, it’s more than just new clothes, it’s about looking beautiful and feeling confident and comfortable (I believe in comfort!) so you can take on the world as soon as you leave the house.
I am the child of two psychologist parents so ” how do you feel about that?” is very important to me:), and I want my clients to feel a sense of peace and enjoyment in whatever service I provide.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Boston is a tremendous place to start a new business. There are lots of wonderful resources, so many helpful and intelligent people and overall just a supportive business community that is very eager to support the development of entrepreneurs and the emergence of new small businesses. If you are thinking about starting your own company, Boston is the perfect city in which to do it!
