Meet Paige Dalto of Little Feet Treats Nut Free Bakery

Today we’d like to introduce you to Paige Dalto.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Paige. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Little Feet Treats Nut Free Bakery was created due to a lifestyle necessity that we suddenly had. At a very young age, my daughter was diagnosed with multiple nut allergies. It quickly became clear to me that we had limited resources when it came to food and particularly baked goods. It was very important to me that she never felt deprived of having a beautiful and delicious treat on special occasions because of her allergy. From there I started baking for my “little feet” and the idea for my business bloomed from there. I took classes to better my technique in the kitchen and learned how to run a small business.

I was amazed at how quickly the business took off. Limited marketing and word of mouth among the local allergy community help spread the news that there was now a safe option for those with nut allergies to enjoy a safe treat. I wasn’t surprised at how thankful my customers were that there now was this option, as I could certainly relate to the difficulty of finding safe foods. When consuming foods outside of your own kitchen, there is always an underlying level of anxiety and risk knowing that cross-contamination could be a possibility. With Little Feet Treats, I was able to eliminate that. My kitchen, equipment, and ingredients are all completely nut free because that is our lifestyle.

Now that it has been over 7 years, I have a wide variety of customers, not just those with allergies but those that simply want a delicious product. My cakes and cupcakes are made from scratch with delicious, quality ingredients. Everything is customized to the customer’s choice, such as flavors, shape, and design. We work together from the start to create the perfect treat.

Has it been a smooth road?
The idea of starting a small business sounded so exciting to me. I knew I could provide a delicious, quality product to my customers and would enjoy providing something that was needed for my community. What was unclear to me at the time was how it would require me to be so many other roles other than just a baker. Suddenly I had to learn marketing, accounting, managing inventory and many other intricacies. Very early on in my business, I remember being so excited about a beautiful, challenging cake design, that when I was finished I realized that I had forgotten to purchase the correct box for it to travel home in.

Time management was a big challenge at the start as well. The fact that I was receiving orders was so exciting that I would accept them all, and then would be up baking until all hours of the night to complete them. I realized that I had to recognize my capabilities, as well limitations, to ensure that quality was not sacrificed for quantity. I started to anticipate busier seasons and plan time accordingly.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Little Feet Treats Nut Free Bakery – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Little Feet Treats is a custom cake and cupcake bakery. I enjoy working individually with each customer to design and create the perfect treat for their occasion. Everything is made from scratch using quality ingredients in a nut-free kitchen.

I am very proud to be able to provide a product to my customers that they can not only enjoy but trust to be safe if a nut allergy is present.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
There are so many wonderful food establishments in our city! We are fortunate to have such a wide variety of offerings for any palette, it is often very hard to choose. As a family with food allergies, this can sometimes be more difficult to navigate, to find somewhere that we believe to be safe for us. It has not stopped us from enjoying these outings, just a little more thoughtful in our selections.

It has been wonderful to see that in the last 12 years that we have been dealing with food allergies, there has been a significant increase in education and management of allergies in our restaurants. I hope as awareness grows, we will continue to see more options similar to mine.
