Meet Mona Devine Kronholm of Devine City Cycle in Providence

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mona Devine Kronholm.

Mona, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My sister, Alexis and I have loved spin for many years and decided to partner up to create a workout environment that is geared towards an individuals fitness goals. We really wanted to share with others the impact “spinning” can have on one’s mind and body . Our classes are created for all levels of fitness and it is our goal to encourage individuals to discover and strive for their personal best.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been pretty smooth, but as with any new business, we are constantly learning and figuring out what works best for our spin community.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
At DCC we ask, what do you ride for? Because we believe everybody has a unique story that can be used to reach one’s personal best. All of our classes are created for all levels of fitness and because of that, we have a wonderfully mixed community of riders, from all walks of life and levels of fitness.

Music has always been a huge part of our lives. Alexis and I have always leaned on music to get us through tough times, to celebrate and to revisit old memories. So it is very important that our instructors curate great playlists to elevate the experience. It is important to Alexis to be in tune with the music on her playlists so that she can choose songs in the moment, determined by who is in the class, the energy level, etc., and by anticipating what the class needs and/or wants.

Community and philanthropy are also very important to us. We support and host charitable events and give back to the community as much as possible. We love the community feel of our studio and it is important to us that everyone feels comfortable and welcome because that is such an important factor in being able to reach your personal fitness goals.

What were you like growing up?
I was always athletic and into sports, played field hockey, ran track etc… My sister Alexis was not, but definitely competitive by nature and as we got older I made her join me in taking some exercise classes. Whatever class it was (aerobics, kick boxing, spin), she was determined to master it and would always go on to become an instructor.

Our partnership works nice because Alexis has always been outgoing and theatrical and I have always been more reserved. So, I enjoy doing more of the behind the scenes running of the business and her outgoing personality puts people at ease and makes them feel comfortable while she encourages each individual to achieve their personal best .

Family, philanthropy, exercise, travel, music, art and food have always been loves of ours and some of the things we ride for ….our love of food definitely keeps us on the bike 😉
