Meet Michael Molway of FM Generator

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Molway.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My father owned several gas stations during the era of the Arab oil embargo. Because of the embargo, there was only a certain amount of fuel each gas station had access to sell. These regulations prevented the business from being able to thrive.

One day, one of his customers, a nun from St. Joseph’s Manor, came to the gas station in a panic as they had a power outage at the Manor and the generator did not start. He followed her back to the Manor where he fixed the generator. He then exited the gas station business and created a generator sales and service business.

He named the new generator company FM Generator. The “FM” name served two purposes as his name was Francis Molway and he was connected with Fairbanks Morse generators. The business took off once he began doing regular repairs for the City of Boston.

Over the years, FM Generator has kept its commitment to quality customer care serving both the public and private markets.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has not been a smooth road, as business with a long lifespan can attest to. We have endured economic changes, both positive and negative. We have endured the gain and loss of large clients due to bidding practices. We have also spent many years and endured struggles to build the solid team of support staff we have today.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about FM Generator – what should we know?
Our generator experts can design, supply, deliver and install all types of power solutions. We can also repair, maintain and completely overhaul existing equipment. We have been providing generator maintenance and repair solutions for over 45 years!

We believe customers should own their generator equipment so we offer equipment that does not use proprietary software. With an open protocol, any qualified technician can work on the generator which gives you the freedom to decide who to work with as a generator services provider, not just the manufacturer’s technicians. This typically saves money while providing flexibility and full ownership. This philosophy has won us recognition in markets such as telecommunications, industrial, government, aero science, and more.

Our disaster recovery experience from the Blizzard of ‘78 through Superstorm Sandy has been praised by numerous state and local agencies—as well as the White House! Our expertise, dedication and track record of ensuring reliable backup power during emergencies is unmatched.

At FM Generator, we do more than sell and service emergency power systems, we provide peace of mind through reliability. We are dedicated to rapid response around the clock, in any situation, while providing quality workmanship and expert solutions!

We’re On When the Power’s Off!

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Flexibility, hard work, and commitment to quality customer care in any situation.
