Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Lozzi Jr.
Michael, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Well, it all started when I was about 14 years old. My dad was building a shed in the back yard and gave me a hammer and a handful of nails. He was always teaching me how to build things and how to build them to last. So there sparked an interest in using my hands, fulfilling my purpose and creating a successful business and a household name LJR Carpentry.
At the time, I never thought I’d be where I am today.
I started working for my dad when I was a kid helping him build homes in local and surrounding towns. Learning the trade as he saw fit. He taught me how to honor and respect clients. He also taught me how to be humble and taught me to keep a strong work ethic, even when I didn’t want to at times!
My dad was one of 7, so I had 5 other uncles, including my grandfather Feliciano, who I learned from and worked for, reciprocating to and fro, as they needed me.
Now, between painters, general contractors, flooring installers and my dad, I was very busy and learned just about every aspect of the trade. Each one of my uncles always had a great work ethic, they always performed at their best and I learned and excelled by watching them. They always kept a strong reputation and a strong character.
Today I strive to be as I was previously taught.
With over 25 years of being in this trade, still learning, even to this day, and staying in contact with family as LJR grows. Pushing forward with communication and maximum effort.
As I like to say, we make a living, not a killing. LJR is very fair and we show up and complete every project in a timely manner.
Here is LJR’s DAILY mission statement: Understanding the Importance of Maintaining a Solid, Refreshing Relationship with Clients to Ensure Each Task is Successfully Completed in a Timely Manner with Communication and Respect.
Every single estimate we send out has this written on it. And it’s what I intend to produce and fully execute!
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Well, every job has its challenges. When you’re a third generation carpenter with over 25 years of quality craftsman experience, you would think you’ve done it all right?
There’s always that one job that comes around and pushes you to make you want to strive and conquer it! I love new and exciting projects that I’ve never done before and there’s always one that sneaks up on you and gives you that little something extra.
There are always surprises in this trade and LJR is always ready!
LJR Carpentry – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
LJR Carpentry does simple handyman services to full residential and commercial renovations. We’ll come by and hang a picture for you, and before you know it, we’re renovating a restaurant. We are resourced with everything you need at all times.
We specialize in making people happy. We specialize in fulfilling clients wishes.
LJR is known for staying communicative throughout each and every project.
One thing I’ve learned is that communication is key. Knowing what’s going on at all times makes people comfortable and happy. I like to feel comfortable myself in business, so that’s reflected as we connect with our clients.
When it comes to constructing, I build and create as if I’m creating something for myself and my family. So whether we’re building a deck, renovating a kitchen, upgrading a bathroom or remodeling a commercial space, I’m ensuring that it is being done the best way possible, satisfying both budget and craftsmanship.
I’m mostly proud of the last day of every job. I love the feeling of completing a project and enjoying the end result. Telling my guys that we came together as a team and made somebody very happy! We did it as a team.
LJR is very unique.
See, I know people that like what they do. I know there are people that we may come across, in business, that like what they do, that hate what they do, that just exist. There are a lot of miserable people out there, that work because they have to, because they need to… well… I love what I do, I love to keep team moral. Here at LJR, We like to stay goofy at times, we love to laugh a lot, enjoy life and usually make our customers laugh with us!
There is no better feeling than waking up early in the morning, waking up for someone else and perusing another’s happiness. I live for this!
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
Like I said, we are proud at the end of each and every job. Our mission is to satisfy the customer. But occasionally there is a project that involves many vendors and a reliable team.
The proudest moment in my career to date would have to be the recent restaurant renovation and completion of China Moon in Stoneham, Massachusetts.
Here was a restaurant that hadn’t been renovated since the late 1960’s. There was much to do in such an old structure and the challenge was great.
LJR assembled a great team of vendors and family alike. Together we teamed up and made a client’s wishes come true. We worked with excellent local architects and engineers to complete this project. It was an honor to work for such a great client and his family!
