Meet Michael Flanagan of Flanagan’s Precision Woodworking in Medfield

Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Flanagan.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Michael . So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I’ve been working with wood my whole life. I’ve always enjoyed layering carefully formed pieces to create a final product that I can be proud of. After years of studying other people’s methods I began my own business. I have kept it small so that I can focus on each step of a project from the foundation to the very last detail. Over the years I have done many different things including built-ins, radiator covers, barn doors, vanities, bars and other freestanding pieces. The most satisfying part of my job is seeing the excitement of my customers when they see the piece they have been dreaming about become a reality in their own home.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
When I first started out I didn’t have the things that one might hope for in a business like mine. I didn’t have a lot of money saved. I didn’t have all the tools I needed and I didn’t have an ideal shop space. It was definitely an uphill battle for a while. All I really had was a natural ability and a strong desire to make beautiful things that people could enjoy for a lifetime. With a bit of luck and a lot of will I was able to get through all of that and now have a business that I can be proud of.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Flanagan’s Precision Woodworking – what should we know?
At Flanagan’s Precision Woodworking we approach each piece individually and take pride in every step of the project. From the first cut of a carefully selected piece of wood to the last coat of finish on a flawless counter top, we strive to provide the finest craftsmanship for our customers.

Building a quality relationship with those customers is one of our highest priorities. Listening carefully to a homeowner from the beginning of the process assures that we can provide exactly what is envisioned. Maintaining good communication, respecting every home and following through on each promise we make allows us to preserve a great relationship with our customers.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Creating well built, beautiful pieces while maintaining trust and an all around good relationship with our customers.
