Meet Melissa Simard of ViviSoi Skincare in Essex County

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Simard.

Melissa, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
When my daughter, Gracie was born I started living a much “cleaner” more organic lifestyle becoming much more health conscious and choosing the all natural, holistic, organic route as much as possible. This was also in the same timeframe and naturally coincided with my new interest and total fascination with the healing arts in which I became obsessed with learning and taking classes on energy healing and in result became certified in numerous different healing modalities. These new ways of being all blended nicely, and easily together. Especially being a new mom and wanting to give my daughter the best of what I can give her to support her in every way.

The reason I started formulating and creating my own skincare products at home was because as it turns out Gracie has highly sensitive skin and was having reactions to the products I was using on her when she was a baby. Even though I thought I was doing the right thing and using organic products on her, when I started doing the research and educating myself I quickly realized that many of the “organic” products that are out on the market are in fact not organic at all or not 100%.

That’s when I decided to learn how to make my own products so that I could feel 100% safe, fully trust and know exactly what I was putting on my daughter’s skin. I started researching, reading a ton of books, taking several different aromatherapies, organic skincare, and formulating classes and totally fell in love with it. I loved learning about all the different healing properties that are found in nature and contained within the all natural ingredients I was using. I loved being able to come up with recipes that could not only heal, benefit, and beautify the skin but that could also benefit and help mentally, emotionally, spiritually, and even physically. It was the most amazing compliment to the energy work I was already doing and is also able to boost and add to it and vice versa. I always add crystal energy elixirs and channel the energy work into all my products.

When I first started out making a product I would always give my creations to my family and friends for them to try and I loved getting their feedback in return. With my mother being a spa owner, and being so well versed with many different skin care product lines. It’s for sure that I payed close attention to any feedback she gave. It wasn’t too long before she told me that she wanted to use my products in-house for the services at her spa. I was pleasantly surprised when she asked me this because at this point I was still doing it as a hobby but this is what made me switch and decide to create a business brand out of it.

Has it been a smooth road?
I love what I do! I am completely living my dream right now!

However, this has not always been the case. I consider myself a bit of a late bloomer, as it has taken me a long time to figure it out, which is a big journey within itself. I am not the “typical” clock in and work 9-5 kind of person. I have always marched to the beat of my own drum. It was very challenging when I was in my 20’s. I often felt lost, confused, in and out of a lot of unfulfilling jobs, and the rebel in me found it really hard and restricted to work for someone else.

I am a very passionate, empathic, intuitive person and I have always known 1. That I wanted to be a mother 2. That I wanted to have my own business. 3. This kind of feeling or deeper knowing that I was meant to do something, like some sort of a purpose. 4. That I wanted to help people in some way.

Even though it took a while and there were a lot of hard moments along the way, I can now see and understand more, how and why everything had to happen the way it did. I feel so blessed now that I discovered my passion, my creativity, my inspiration, through my series of events, and my daughter. Every day is a gift when I get to wake up, spend time with my daughter before I get her off to school, and then I get to do what I love and share that with the world.

I think with any business or in life, you encounter struggles or bumps along the way, but I just try to take the lesson from the struggle as they come and leave the rest. I’ve had to learn and retrain my brain to be easier and kinder to myself which has been a learning process in itself. However, Its only me in my business so I have gotten much nicer more patient, and much more forgiving with myself.

One of my biggest struggles thus far has to do with my packaging. It was hard for me to find containers for my products that I loved or that I felt best represented my brand. I think I have already changed 3-4 times. Another struggle I had was with choosing my labels. I encounter struggles all the time, perhaps every day, but I guess I just choose to not see them as struggles. One of my biggest strengths is finding solutions. I have always been this way, whenever a challenge comes up, my thoughts go directly towards finding the solution. As an athlete my whole life and coming from a sports family I have always appreciated a good challenge. I try to embrace the challenges when they come because I know that on the other side of the challenge lies major growth.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with ViviSoi Skincare – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.

My business is called ViviSoi Skincare. ViviSoi is a French name: the first vi, stands for life, the 2nd vi stands for vitality, and Soi stands, for self in regards to self love and self-care: In essence; To life a life filled with vitality for self. I also felt strongly about including “Be true Be you under ViviSoi as well because I truly believe in order to live and align to your highest and best life that is filled with the highest vitality, one must first and foremost be true to oneself and live authentically.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Boston. I have lived here my entire life. Its a beautiful, diverse, rich and rooted in history, on the water, great sports city.

What I like least is that winter is very long.
