Meet Megan Mills of The Bob House And The Reel N Tavern in Moultonborough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Mills.

Megan, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
My husband has been cooking and managing restaurants for 20 years. I have been waiting tables and bartending for 18 years. I graduated from Plymouth State University with a Marketing Degree and Minor in Communications and went into Event Marketing managing weddings and events. I met my husband in college and we worked together at a family owned restaurant called Kalliope. My husband left the cooking profession for a year and went into food sales and was a top producer for Reinhart Food Service. The knowledge he obtained in that one year would become extremely valuable owning our own restaurant. He decided he didn’t want to work for anyone else again and wanted to pursue his dream of owning a restaurant of his own. We got an opportunity from the owner of The Bob House And The Reel N Tavern (where we both worked 4 years) to take over ownership in May 2013. We now have 2 children and run a successful business in the heart of the Lakes Region.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The biggest struggles we encounter is staffing. Finding adequate employees to want to work and work hard has been an ongoing struggle.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Bob House And Reel N’ Tavern is located in Moultonborough, NH. We can seat up to 165 people with a tavern, dining room and 2 bars (1 seats 15 people the other seats 30). We have about 100 items on our menu that range from burgers & sandwiches to Salmon & NY Sirloin. We are most famous for our fresh food, large portions & reasonable prices. Our most famous dish is our Baked North Atlantic Haddock. There is something for everyone on our menu and people rave about the quality of what we serve.

What were you like growing up?
My husband as always wanted to own his very own restaurant and I have always wanted to do something bigger and strive to succeed by being my own boss.
