Meet Mary Hurley of My Pediatric OT Services

Today we’d like to introduce you to Mary Hurley.

Mary, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Prior to 2009, friends had reached out to me in search of a local occupational therapy clinic without a substantial commute. After agreeing to privately treat their children, it became apparent that there was a need to further assist children and families within the southeastern Massachusetts area. With the help of my husband, Eamon, we adapted and renovated our attached garage to allow for an optimal treatment space and thus, My Pediatric OT Services came into fruition. During those initial years, I relied heavily on the training and advice of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center to guide and support the expansion of the business. Within three years, My Pediatric OT Services outgrew the garage space and we found a new home in the center of Mansfield. At our new location, we were able to hire additional staff members to service the ever-growing needs of the children and families in the surrounding towns. Again, 3 years later, we found ourselves needing a larger treatment space. My Pediatric OT Services was fortunate to have found a warm and inviting location, in Foxboro that was only 10 minutes away from our Mansfield location, that allowed us to incorporate additional treatment modalities while maintaining a comfortable and supportive atmosphere. Our dedicated therapists are excited to see what the future holds as we continue to service the needs of the pediatric population in this area.

Has it been a smooth road?
From day 1, this venture has been a leap of faith. My Pediatric OT Services would not be what it is today without the support of my husband, family, coworkers, and families that we service. It has been scary at times, however, at the end of the day, when you see a child learn to walk, tie her shoes, eat a new vegetable, and/or enjoy a family outing the feeling is indescribable!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the My Pediatric OT Services story. Tell us more about the business.
My Pediatric OT Services provides evaluation and treatment of infants, toddlers, preschoolers and primary school children. Children treated may be challenged by behavioral difficulties, developmental differences such as gross and fine motor delays, difficulty focusing and attending, perceptual impairments, illegible handwriting, and dyspraxia (lack of motor planning). An individualized approach is utilized in order to meet the child where he/she is at in their development and take them beyond that point.

We pride ourselves on treating the whole family and ensure we provide caregiver teaching and support throughout every step of the way.

My Pediatric OT Services is comprised of a small team with a strong background in pediatrics. The staff is dedicated, devoted, caring, and nurturing. As a team, we try our very best to provide consistency, support and encouragement throughout treatment process.

I am extremely proud of the therapists at My Pediatric OT Services, not only the high level of expertise held by each staff member, but also the level of caring and compassion provided to the children and families.

That is fantastic. Young children have needs that are often not recognized or treated in school systems. You will or have been changing lives for the better for many. I wish you the best of success
