Meet Marcella Regal of Marcella’s Hotspot Salon in South Grafton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marcella Regal.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Marcella. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After hair school, I worked for a salon for six years. Then my entrepreneurial spirit kicked in and I created a mobile salon service called Hair X-Press. I believe it was the first new idea of its kind in 1992. I was then told I could not do this unless I had a salon. So then my next business was born, Marcella’s Salon in Newton, Ma at the ripe age of twenty eight. I continued both businesses for a while and for seven years it was great. A few years later I then decided to pursue shiatsu acupressure massage. It interested me and it was a deeper level of learning about the body the meridians and pressure points which fascinated me. This would add to my science degree background in exercise physiology. So I decided to sign up for school once again. Although when I started, I learned I was pregnant with my second child and didn’t know if I should continue. But my teacher welcomed me to continue. I was then the first pregnant student to go through class, have a baby and finish when my kid was seven months old. In fact the teacher gave my baby a certificate too, to celebrate us.

Then later a move brought us to Grafton, Ma. My original focus in my first business at Marcella’s Salon was hair, skin, nails, and tanning. As I took some time off after our move, I restructured my thoughts .Then two years later as my kids were growing I brought in a holistic approach. Healing, homeopathy, and massage became my new focus. As I transitioned into a quiet lifestyle and my kids were growing I opened a new business called A Gifted Healer. I started with pet healing as an online volunteer and gradually shifted to working with people as well. I then developed my own method to intuitively scan people’s energy like an MRI. Then I honed in on my talents with follow up energy attunements and learned all I could about healing and health. After this I commissioned at a few work places. Then a divorce took place which derailed me for a few years. After this I then worked part time for a well know company not related to hair. When my child was six years old I opened my next business in my hometown called Marcella’s Hotspot Salon. I worked two jobs part time for three years twenty hours each, trying to grow my business. I was not sure I could make it, but somehow I was able to. I finally left my other job and have been working six years now and full time.

My focus now is hair, massage and holistic healing. I combined the healing business with my hair business. My business as a sole entrepreneur and single mom gives me the flexibility for my family. Some perks I have now are being able to live close to home, no driving in long commutes and to be able to be there for my family. Somehow I made it work. There were many challenges, but I never gave up. It was scary but I had the help of my friends and family and the will to make it work for all of us.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Most of my struggles were financial and growing a client base fresh from scratch all over again. Working alone with no employees and doing all the work and marketing myself. Also, the location and cozy size were not as desirable as some other spots so I had to work harder to stand out.
