Meet Lori Dunbar of Great Woofs

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lori Dunbar.

Lori, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
My passion has always been taking care of dogs. After the devasting pet food recall in 2007, I realized how little we know about what is going into the food we are feeding our dogs. I opened my retail boutique, Pawsmopolitan, in September of 2007. My focus then and still now is on nutrition.

Through the years at Pawsmopolitan, I would hear the same concern from my customers, I would love to take my dog to daycare or board them but I don’t trust anyone. They always said I should open a place because they would trust me to care for their very important family member. In August of 2015 Great Woofs opened.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I don’t think anyone that has opened a business hasn’t had challenges and disappointments. I think we all go into it with rainbows over our heads, but there are always the days where the dark clouds cover those rainbows. I’ve had many challenges along the way. Starting with a business partner and realizing that we had different directions we wanted the business to go in and becoming sole owner was challenging.

Trusting people that don’t always have the best intentions for you and your business was very difficult for me, but you learn very quickly who has your back. My Dad always told me about the peaks and valleys in life. Thankfully the peaks outweigh the valleys, and what we do here is worth every obstacle and challenge that has been thrown our way.

Please tell us about Great Woofs.
Great Woofs is a Premier Doggie Daycare/Grooming/Training/Boarding facility. We are known for our caring nature, our knowledge about behavior, nutrition and well being.

I am the most proud of how happy the dogs and parents are when they come to Great Woofs. This is a testament to how hard myself and my staff works to make sure the dogs have a great day! We have an awesome facility, that as one of our pet parents put it “Is the Ritz Carlton for dogs”.

The thing that sets us apart from other facilities is integrity. It is truly about the dogs here. We do what we say we are going to do and we are very honest with our customers. Knowing that our customers have peace of mind when they leave their dog with us says it all for the type of facility that we are.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly, I don’t think I would do anything differently. Everything that I have done so far has brought me to where I am now. Good and the bad, I wouldn’t change a thing.
