Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Scala.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have been making art for as long as I can remember, but I started a jewelry making lessons at 16. From the first lesson, I knew that this was what I wanted to do for a living and for my art! I have been making jewelry for 35 years and still wake up excited about what I am going to create next!
I am a very blessed person because of this and because of the amazing supportive people that surround me. I have been a wholesale jeweler for many years with my studio here in Georgetown within my family’s antique business building. I sold my work at galleries throughout the country. I still have 19 wholesale accounts but I opened my first retail shop 9 years ago at the Scala Center at 28 West Main St. Georgetown Ma, 01833.
I love this aspect of the business as I really enjoy connecting with people through my work and just on a personal level. I have my working metalsmithing studio in the building as well. Scala Center has a great community of talented artists and wellness practitioners throughout the building. We also have unique vintage and antique shops within. So I have all of my passions under one roof “Lucky Girl”.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have been lucky to have very supportive parents and friends throughout my career. The challenge has always been my own self-doubt. Finally, at this age, I understand and celebrate my own talent and abilities. This has been an amazing journey and I really enjoy passing along my skills and knowledge to my students and my apprentice.
I would love for her to be able to overcome her own doubts to shine earlier in life. I set challenges for myself and have had the drive to achieve them all. Just keep going and believe in yourself!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Lisa Scala Handmade Jewelry story. Tell us more about the business.
My shop has become a gathering place where I share my excitement for my new designs and concepts. I have been told that the interior of my shop looks like the shop on Newbury St. not sure if it’s all that but I try to reflect my aesthetic as well as keeping a welcoming feel. I hand make all of my pieces in a great studio in the lower level of the building so people can see us create.
I specialize in one of a kind art jewelry and have just started incorporating healing gemstones and empowering messages to connect on an even deeper level. I am known for my simple clean designs that reflect nature. I am also being recognized for my custom healing jewelry. Very excited to be adding another layer to my work. I am most proud of the diverse loving place I have created. The response has been remarkable.
I adore gemstones as well as beach stones. I have been collecting them since I was two apparently. I love incorporating contemporary design with natural objects.

Elegance with an Edge!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I really don’t think of it as luck, I have faith in myself and God. “The good” I’m open to what is sent from the universe and I’m blessed. “The bad” are teaching moments. Not that I don’t freak out, but move on and try to learn from them.
