Meet Lea Manzi Collar and Sera Manzi of LIVFiT+REFUEL

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lea Manzi Collar and Sera Manzi.

Lea and Sera, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started our journey to open a fitness studio in the summer of 2016. My sister and I have always loved taking group fitness classes instead of just doing our own regimen at a large gym. For us, It was about the small class sizes, uplifting instructors, and comradery among the members.

After years of taking Barre classes, we (along with our brother Mike Manzi) decided it was time to open our own studio in our area of Andover, Ma. We wanted to be different than the barre and small group fitness franchises and create not only a beautiful space for our members, but also a place where our members can feel comfortable in their own skin, brave to try different classes offered, and encouraged every time they started and finished their class. We began construction on our studio in the fall of 2016 and opened our doors in January 2017.

Sera and Lea teach many of the classes at LIVFiT+REFUEL including C_Method Barre, C_Method Barre Fusion, Barre Bell, POUND, and other cardio classes. We have also hired some amazing instructors along the way, who share the same passion in fitness and health. Our team of instructors helps bring Yoga Sculpt and Vinyasa Yoga to our list of classes as well. We pride our business on our positive and friendly atmosphere, and encourage our members to focus on becoming strong, healthy, and to maintain a positive body image attitude!

Also within our studio, we offer childcare for our morning classes, and a smoothie bar made with fruit, vegetables, and protein. The past year has been full of a lot of ups and downs for our business. We have learned so much from. We have had a vision for our studio and keep working towards making it better while still giving our members that

Has it been a smooth road?
As we approach our 1 year anniversary, the road has been full of ups and downs, especially as new entrepreneurs. Since we are not operated by a franchise, we started from 0 members to now over 100 members in our area. Of course, like most fitness establishments, there are slow times and busy times. Our biggest obstacle so far has been how to please a majority of our members with the right class times! It is tough to target the working and non-working population in the area, but we will be trying to add some early morning classes (think 5:30 am) to our schedule come January 2018.

Another struggle has been the toll it takes on your body as an instructor. Part of the experience at LIVFiT is having your instructor grind through the class with you. So we not only instruct, but we sweat right there with you. Since my sister and I teach many of the classes ourselves (sometimes 2-3 a day) it can take a toll on our bodies. And when you first start out as a new business, staffing a full team is pretty much impossible! But we are getting there!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with LIVFiT+REFUEL – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
LIVFiT+REFUEL specializes in group fitness classes. We offer Barre classes, cardio classes, babywearing classes (for new moms) and Yoga classes. Our certification in Barre is different than the rest. C_Method® Barre brings everything to the table; high and low resistance, heart pumping energy and slow flow stretching. Your muscles will be tired and shaking, but the powerful outcome leaves you feeling strong. Our instructors are trained to show advanced and modified version of the barre movements, so anyone of any fitness level is able to get through a class.

What sets us apart from many franchises and private boutique studios is the extras we offer within our studio. We have childcare for our moms for our morning classes, and a full smoothie bar that you can either pre-order before class or grab on the way out. All of our smoothies are made fresh upon request and packed with fruit, vegetables, and protein.

We also have the flexibility to add up and coming trend classes and keep our prices fair and affordable. Lastly, unlike many instructors that simply go around the room correcting form and focusing on what you are doing incorrectly, our instructors do the movements with you. We do also correct form because we want our members to stay safe, but we do grind out a lot of the class with them, and that’s what gives everyone in the room a sense of togetherness. You not only feed off each other but your instructor as well.
