Meet Laura Kastner of Tenacious Traveller Tours and Adventures in Braintree

Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Kastner.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Laura. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I opened Tenacious Traveller in June of 2016 after nearly 15 years in the international educational exchange field. Like many, I studied abroad in my junior year of university while studying Journalism and later French at Penn State, then took a month to journey across Europe on a Eurail pass. It was this first foray into the world of travel and cultural exchange that would shape my career and attitudes toward travel.

After graduating with a second degree in International Politics (also from Penn State), I went on to work in a variety of cultural exchange and experiential learning jobs in leadership, sales and operational roles, from an international camp counselor program to international volunteer programs and most recently a skills-based global gap year program. The one driving force behind my career choices was the belief that these types of immersive cultural experiences could lead to greater international understanding and cooperation. I found the most joy in being able to learn about a country or culture through local, hands-on experiences and in providing these types of experiences for others.

In addition to a dedication to cultural exchange, I get great joy out of time spent in the outdoors. I am passionate about protecting our fragile environment and wanted to put trips together that allow people to engage in nature and gain a better understanding of its importance in our everyday lives.

When contemplating opening my own travel company, I knew that I wanted to offer others the type of travel experiences that so strongly impacted my life. With Tenacious Traveller Tours & Adventures, I combine my passion for cultural exchange with my love of the outdoors to create a travel product that gives people the opportunity to experience the world in a holistic and hands-on way.

Has it been a smooth road?
Opening one’s own travel business is not terribly difficult but the challenge is in getting the word out about my services. In today’s world of on-line travel providers most think the travel agent is long gone. Quite the contrary, the industry is alive and well! The challenge comes in helping people to understand why they will find it more useful to use a travel professional to arrange their trips. Many people prefer to make their own travel arrangements and the on-line options are limitless. Additionally they are hesitant as they think agents charge exorbitant fees. The challenge comes in breaking these myths and helping people understand the benefits of using a travel consultant. With a travel professional you get experience, reliability, support, customization and follow-through. And with this particular type of travel utilizing a travel professional provides access to opportunities one might not find on their own.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Tenacious Traveller Tours & Adventures – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Tenacious Traveller Tours & Adventures is a full-service travel company specializing in customized experiential vacations with a focus on cultural and natural immersion. Experiential travel, also called active and adventure travel, is a travel style that has seen growing interest in recent years. More than a bus tour or beach vacation, experiential travel gives people the opportunity to see a place in a unique and inspiring way. I provide an adventure that is more about doing than seeing, more about hands-on experiences than observation. Whether interested in learning a new language or a local custom, or hiking or biking across the countryside, my trips will leave travelers feeling wholly immersed in their destination.

What sets me apart from others? It is my goal to provide unique and inspirational travel experiences while giving my clients the time and attention needed to plan a trip to their exact specifications. I am a seasoned traveler, having logged visits to over 20 countries, so am well-versed in the challenges of travel as well as what is needed to prepare. I am committed 100% to my clients and provide them with constant support before they depart to follow up after they return home to see how it all went. I am passionate about what I do and in my belief that travel has the power to change the way we view ourselves and the world around us.

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Since moving here 17 years ago, we have taken advantage of the many museums, restaurants, parks and outdoor activities the area has to offer. This has been a superb place to raise a family and with a very accessible and walkable city, we have enjoyed many concerts and evenings out in Boston. Summers in the city are the best with perfect weather (most of the time) and a myriad of cultural festivals and events.

The severity and length of winter are the down sides of living here.
