Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristin Healy.
Kristin, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I’ve always loved planning and attending events – I just never thought it could be a career! My first job out of college was at the largest hotel in Boston, as a catering assistant. That’s where I really developed a love for planning, logistics, and all the little details that come together to make an event spectacular! After six months of working there, I was offered an opportunity to join the event planning team at a large health care company in Boston, where I gained invaluable experience planning employee recognition events and executive meetings. After planning my own wedding several years later, I was once again looking for a creative outlet, which led me to Swank Events! I worked with the previous owner, Kelli Sigmon, on several events and decided I really wanted to branch out on my own. The timing worked out perfectly – I was looking to start an event planning company and Kelli was looking to sell Swank Events. I’m proud to say, three and a half years later, Swank has tripled the number of events planned each year and 2017 will be our biggest year yet.
Has it been a smooth road?
Overall, yes, but there are certainly daily struggles! As a small business owner, I often find myself trying to do it all. Prior to this year, I have always been the one responding to emails, posting on social media, generating new leads, tracking financials, running all the daily business operations, in addition to the hours upon hours of planning my client events. Almost two years ago I had my first child and my priorities shifted a bit and I realized having a balance between work and family/home life is so important. I would say finding this balance has been (and still is!) the biggest challenge for me.

Swank Events is a full service event planning company serving all of New England. We are definitely most known for planning awesome weddings, but we really LOVE planning corporate events and are shifting the focus of Swank to that – holiday parties, summer outings, team-building events – bring it on!
Our creativity, attention to detail, organizational skills and passion for planning really sets us apart. We want our clients to be able to enjoy their party – not stress over it. Since Swank is a small company, I am involved in every aspect of every event and as a perfectionist; I make sure that no detail is overlooked.
I am most proud of the results we deliver and our incredible reputation. People don’t often think about all of the work that goes into planning an event. When an event goes off without a hitch, it’s because of the many hours of planning, preparation and everything that is done behind the scenes to make it happen. When an event is over and we know we played a large role in creating an amazing, memorable experience for attendees; that’s why we do what we do. And we love it.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Yes, Boston is an incredible city for an event planning business! There are so many amazing venues/caterers/vendors, awesome views and great adventures to take advantage of.
