Meet Kevin Bishop and Marianne Vogel of Golden Scroll Soloists

Today we’d like to introduce you to Kevin Bishop and Marianne Vogel.

Golden Scroll Soloists was founded in 2005 by Kevin while he was living in Los Angeles; it was there that he first learned the ins and outs of wedding music. A few years later he moved the business to New England, where Marianne Vogel joined the team as violinist and eventually became music coordinator.

Golden Scroll Soloists has slowly grown into one of the premiere wedding music ensembles. Over the years, they have expanded into playing for all types of public and private events, and they’ve developed a unique song list that includes all the classical standards, along with hundreds of rock and pop song arrangements.

They’ve performed everywhere you can imagine, and some you can’t- on the back of a moving yacht, in the Boston Public Library, in the sand on the beaches of Cape Cod, and in top ballrooms and concert halls across the region.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It’s taken us many years to assemble our best team, build our unique musical repertoire, and have our musicians playing seamlessly together while also keeping track of who is walking down the aisle. We are tremendously proud of our musicians, and we’ve all become good friends. Everyone is so talented, and because we work together so much, we think there’s a real sense of magic that comes through in our sound.

Wedding music horror stories circulate endlessly in musician circles, almost always ones about the pickup group that tried to make a few extra bucks. Providing a string quartet for a wedding isn’t something that can just be thrown together. It’s not easy to accommodate the unique needs of each client- their special songs, their personal desires, and touches. There is no cookie cutter approach to integrating music into an event.

We know that the quality and effortlessness of our product has risen enormously over the years. It really matters to us to get every single detail right. Hard work pays off, and now- after twelve years of striving for improvement- we are really beginning to reap the benefits. We love what we do, and we love making people happy on the most important days of their lives.

Please tell us about Golden Scroll Soloists.
Golden Scroll Soloists provides musicians for weddings and events throughout New England. We specialize in string music; quartets, trios, duos, or violin soloists, but we can also supply singers and keyboard/wind players when the need arises. Our excellence has been recognized numerous times by the top planning websites in the industry- we’ve won the “Best of Weddings” from The Knot so many times that they sent us a trophy! Just today we learned that we won “Best of Weddings” yet again for 2018.

We’ve also won the “Couples Choice Award” from WeddingWire for 7 years in a row. We are proud of our hundreds of 5-star reviews posted across all of the major wedding websites because each one of those was earned with a lot of hard work and dedication.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If we had to start over, we would love to go back to 2005 with the same skill and flexibility we have now! There is no “one size fits all” approach for events. Every wedding, every party, every corporate function has its own needs. Even different rooms and spaces have different vibes. When we first started, we knew one way to do things that worked.

Now we have a wide breadth of music to choose from, and (having seen it all!) can handle most any request- even when the bride wants the theme from ‘Jaws’ played as she processes into her shoreside ceremony by motorboat, or when the theme from Game of Thrones is what’s going to make the day.
