Meet Dr. Jordana Szpiro of Boston Common Podiatry and Skin Center

Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Jordana Szpiro.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I am a medical and surgical podiatrist from California, where I completed Podiatry School in 1997 and then did my surgical training at a Cornell institution in NYC and started Boston Common Podiatry as a private solo practitioner practice subletting one room in a chiropractic office and have built up to a thriving medical/surgical Podiatry Practice with over 7000 patients and opened the Boston Common Skin Center specializing in laser treatment of veins, hair removal, scars, and anti-aging modalities just this past year.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Navigating the ever changing healthcare system while still providing quality, sincere care to our patients is an ongoing learning experience for both doctor and staff and we are all learning from each and our patients on a daily basis. Being a female physician and business owner are 2 very challenging roles that require tenacity and the creative problem solving.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Boston Common Podiatry and Skin Center – what should we know?
Boston Common Podiatry and Skin Center provides general medical and surgical podiatry services and is a medical laser skin center for aesthetics. We provide quality, patient centric care for a range of foot problems specializing in athlete’s and those with active and exciting lifestyles. As the official podiatrist to the Boston Ballet, I am familiar with the challenges of treating those who wish to lead an active, pain free lifestyle without affording the time for any disability. As a company, we foster the next generation of health care professionals by employing students in pre health disciplines including medical, dental and nursing and allowing them to gain extensive clinical experience through direct patient contact. What sets me apart from other podiatrists is my holistic approach to patients and taking into consideration their personal needs, preferences and lifestyles when formulating a treatment plan. The other distinguishing fact about our office is we may start with the podiatric problem but provide aesthetic solutions as well including laser for nail fungus, Keryflex and Sculptra filler in the feet.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
Dr. Edgar Ballenas acts as our Medical Director who allows us to provide full body laser aesthetics. MGH Back Bay and One Medical have also been very supportive as regular referring practices.
