Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Chen.
Jim, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My business partner and I played an escape room game on a vacation trip together. We didn’t know what to expect but we were both captivated instantly by the game concept. We realized Boston didn’t offer anything of the sort at the time and saw an opportunity to bring this concept locally. We felt there would be a high demand with the dense college and young professional demographic. These escape room games are intellectually challenging and foster team building.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As with any new business concept, we did encounter unexpected challenges. Finding the appropriate location that’s also suitable for the game took quite a while. There were many preferred locations that didn’t work out. It was very difficult explaining this game concept to the landlords.
Amaze Escape – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Our escape room is unique due to our location. It takes place in an authentic jail cell once used by the Arlington Police. It immerse the players in our “Escape From Death Row” theme. We’ve customized all the puzzles and game challenges for the jail break theme and still maintain the authenticity of the real jail cells.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
We define our success from the excitement and satisfaction of our customers after they experienced our games. They enjoy their experiences with us and are eager for more escape games.
