Meet Jim Barbere of Jim Barbere Photography in Newburyport

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jim Barbere.

Jim, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always had a deep appreciation for art growing up. I took art in high school and was awarded a small scholarship to Montserrat College of Art. I took art classes in college but decided to pursue business and finance. After many years in corporate America, the creative itch continued to grow. It was about 13 years ago, I bought my first DSLR and haven’t looked back since. I dipped my toe in the water as a second shooter for weddings and fell in love with the energy of the day, the creative process and fulfilling the needs of the clients. Fast forward to today and I now shoot a blend of weddings, portraits, and real estate and wake up every day thankful that I get to do what I love.

Has it been a smooth road?
Challenges, sure, there are daily struggles but as an entrepreneur, you learn quickly that it’s your job to take risks, fail, and (hopefully) learn. The most important lessons I have had to learn are to manage my time efficiently and value my work.

What else should we know about your work?  What are you most proud of?
Jim Barbere Photography specializes in weddings, engagements, real estate, and events. I just photographed a wedding this past Saturday and while saying goodbye the bride said “I wish I could get married five more times, so I could hire you again for each wedding”, these are the moments that I live for and make all the late nights and weekends worth it. I tell my clients that I’m the least stressful part of their wedding or project and get to know them, their expectations, and strive to deliver above and beyond – every – single – time! For me, it’s all about keeping it fun for them… and me. 🙂

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Our city is a fantastic place to start a photography business. Boston and New England has so much to offer. The art and photography community is vibrant and in my experience very generous and giving. Some of my closest friends are photographers I’ve met along the way. The scenery here is some of the most beautiful in the country and there seems to be a lot of demand.
