Meet Jefferson G. Barros of JB Capital Partners in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jefferson G. Barros.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
In 2014, I began working as a full-time Realtor for Keller Williams Realty assisting buyers and sellers with the purchase and sale of residential homes. My first year as an agent was very slow but then gradually picked up on the second year. Finding new clients was very time consuming and costly especially since I was balancing both real estate along with being a full-time student at the University of Massachusetts Boston (Umass Boston). Although both were very demanding of my time I did learn the importance of time management which allowed me to keep my business going while pursuing my degree.

In order for me to increase business and expand my clientele, my brokerage offered a class on real estate investing in which I learned how to educate potential clients to invest in real estate since investors are always purchasing and selling property. The class taught me how to establish business relationships with potential investors (i.e. chiropractors, dentists, attorneys, etc.) since those are some of the professionals that are capable having the capital and would entertain the idea of investing in real estate. I also believed that if I took the class I would eventually work with individuals that will continually be looking for properties. As I continued to work with more investors I came to a realization that not only was I capable of finding my own deals but I can sell the properties myself.

As a Realtor, my leverage is that I have full access to the market data, mortgage lenders, and contractors along with private lenders. After working with multiple investors my focus transitioned from being an agent to becoming a real estate investor, so I decided to start JB Capital Partners. Prior to graduating Umass Boston in 2016 with a B.S in Business Management, my entrepreneurship class is how I learned to organize my business (i.e. business planning, marketing, financing, etc.) as well as how to present my business to other potential investors. I’ve made quite a few changes along the way but with business you will always have new ideas that you would like to implement.

As of today, JB Capital Partners focuses on improving communities, building relationships, partnering with other real estate investors and providing access to investment funds. Our services include Joint Venture, Property Management, Leasing, Acquisition and Investing Private Equity. Although the company has been growing, I still consider it to be an upcoming small business.

Has it been a smooth road?
No, it has not been a smooth road at all. As a young entrepreneur it’s been very challenging and stressful to get the funding needed for my business since banks and investors restrict in investing their money into new companies without an extensive portfolio. Although I’ve been turned down by multiple banks, private lenders and venture capitalists my objective has always been to remain consistent in marketing my business.

I’ve also had to invest a lot of time in building relationships with mortgage brokers, lenders and real estate investors to build trust. I’ve sacrificed friends, spending time with family, and putting all of my savings into this business with the anticipation that this business will expand to its full potential. There’s many times where I’ve been discouraged after not seeing results as quickly as I would like but I make sure to maintain a positive mindset by surrounding myself with other positive successful individuals. I keep myself driven by meditating, listening to motivational videos, audiobooks as well as a daily workout routine. I also attend a variety of network events and getting involved in community organizations all while trying to promote my business.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the JB Capital Partners story. Tell us more about the business.
JB Capital Partners is a real estate investment company. We specialize in providing funds and investing private equity into the real estate market. We invest in property and provide access to capital for other real estate investors that would have difficulty in getting funds from conventional banks. Although, we loan in small portions we have built strong relationships with other private lenders and real estate investors.

As a company I am most proud of my hard work in getting the business up and running. Though the business is not where I want it to be today I still persevere through the challenges and intend to find solutions. I believe I set myself and this company apart from others by my work ethic. I could have given up at the beginning stage of the business but I’ve managed to find ways to keep the business from descending. I am passionate, dedicated and willing to take initiative in working beyond what is expected. I pride myself in being honest, ethical and respectful not only professionally but personally as well.

As the CEO of JB Capital Partners my goal is not only to provide the upmost quality service for my clients but to build an atmosphere for a team which will be a great asset to my company. By educating, mentoring and investing in them I believe it will build loyal team members that will encourage them to perform as if it was their own company.
