Meet Janine Whittaker of Blue Lotus Design in Amesbury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janine Whittaker.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I have always been passionate about environments. It amazes me how a small change in the area around you can impact the way you feel when you’re at home or at work. It is because of this that interior design became a passion of mine. From beginning to decorate my room as a child with construction paper vines and flowers to designing commercial environments for large corporations in my current career, I have always loved the art of interior design.

In early 2015 I took a training course in San Diego, CA in Feng Shui through the International School of Feng Shui under Master Teacher Amanda Collins. I have always loved the study of Feng Shui but this brought it to a new level I had never dreamed of. The course was empowering and gave me the strength and courage to chase my dreams and begin my own business in design and Feng Shui.

Now, in just over two years since I started Blue Lotus, I have moved back to the East Coast with my fiancé and am running my business out of Amesbury, Massachusetts. In addition to Feng Shui consulting Services, I have extended my services to offer interior decoration, home staging, home redesign, and color consulting services. It is my passion to use as much as possible from what a homeowner already owns and to create a stylish look with as little investment as possible, as good design does not need to coat a million dollars.

I am blessed for the opportunities I have been given and the people I have met. I am looking forward to the ability to continue to grow my business as I would love to hire and teach others as the business thrives.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has not always been a smooth road. Without formal interior Design training, my biggest struggle has been being asked to do something I previously did not have the knowledge to do. I’ve been completely honest with my clients when they request something of this sort from me and most, if not all, has allowed me the chance to figure out how to do it and given me the opportunity to learn from the experience.

For Instance, I had a realtor ask me to stage a home. I had never staged a home before and told her that and she was willing to work with me to help me learn to stage and now we are building a great relationship and have worked on several homes together.

Another example was a client who had called me to Feng Shui his home in Newburyport and, in turn, wanted me to design his entire home by adding all decorative accessories, rugs and some missing furnishings. Both experiences forced me to grow and learn and thrive in ways I could have never imagined and for that I am extremely grateful and blessed.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Blue Lotus Design LLC story. Tell us more about the business.
We specialize in Feng Shui, Home Staging, Interior Decoration and Redesign, and Energetic Space Clearing. It is our passion to align homes and businesses with our clients’ dreams, desires and goals. Our principles embody transforming homes into a haven of respite and shifting business environments into higher levels of productivity and happiness.

One of the key things that sets us apart is integration of the belief in the metaphysical realm, looking at the project as a holistic approach to a life- changing environment and our integration of Feng Shui into all of our projects. Feng Shui is the study of how an environment effects its inhabitants and the manipulation of energy within the environment.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I have been very lucky in my world as a Feng Shui consultant/ designer as my path has been crossed with “just the right person” at “just the right time” on more occasions than I can count. All of which have been a re-affirming sign that I am on the path I am meant to be on by pursuing my love of design.
