Meet Janet Cooke of Heart and Seam in New Hampshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Janet Cooke.

Janet, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I launched Heart and Seam in May of 2017 and what started out as solely a fashion-focused blog has quickly grown into more. The blog celebrates fashion, beauty, wellness, and positivity. I write about aspects of life that bring joy, feed the soul all while integrating personal style. My mission is to create an online resource for women that inspires and encourages with content that is both relatable and attainable.

I hope to help women define and grow their personal style while encouraging them to create a positive form of self-expression. To me, clothes are so much more than what you put on every day. They can truly help to set the tone and your intention for the day ahead.

I also share a lot about my fitness and wellness journey including easy recipes, effective workouts, ways to stay positive and more.

I hope Heart and Seam will encourage women to find their most positive sense of self while learning and sharing something new by feeling good from the inside and out.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
So many struggles! I think the biggest struggle is finding my voice in such a saturated niche. There are lifestyle bloggers everywhere you turn. It’s easy to get lost and caught up with how many Instagram followers you have. It’s incredibly difficult not to compare yourself to others and question whether you’re good enough, whether you belong.

I think when I finally decided to stop worrying so much about the numbers and focus more on who I am and less on who I thought I was supposed to be and create content that brings me joy has truly been what has made all the difference. While I do love social media and it’s necessary to succeed, for me, it’s about the blog. That’s where I share the most, it’s where I want people to find me and it’s truly the hub of where I want to create, where I want to help others.

Finding the time has also been a struggle. I am a wife and mother of two small children. I also work full-time during so I have to be very strategic with time. Creating looks, scouting locations, editing, writing, working with brands and meeting deadlines. It can be a lot. I work on the blog after the kids are asleep. There are many late nights but for me and it’s worth it. My family is without a doubt my main priority but I love to create and this blog has allowed me to do just that.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Heart and Seam – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Heart and Seam is a lifestyle blog that celebrates fashion, beauty, wellness, and positivity. My mission is to create an online resource for women that inspires and encourages.

I am most proud of the positive feedback I have received from not only friends and family but from new readers and followers. They are relating to the content on the blog and implementing in their own lives.

It’s a great feeling when I receive messages from women who never thought they could wear over-the-knee boots but after seeing an outfit post on Heart and Seam, now love to wear them with confidence. Or when someone mentions they love a recent recipe post and now it’s part of their weekly meal planning.

I also love the sense of community. The feedback, comments and reader input is priceless to me. It’s what I had wanted from the beginning, to share aspects of my life that bring joy and have it resonate and help others in their lives. I love that my readers are finding this space helpful and feel like they can contribute their thoughts as well. Having a forum to create and to then have that discussion is what it’s all about.

I think there are a few things that set Heart and Seam apart from other lifestyle blogs. First and foremost, the location and sense of community. All of my photos are taken throughout the NH Seacoast. It is truly such a beautiful place with endless amounts of charm so there is no shortage of fun backdrops. I love to work within the community whenever possible. I’ve had the pleasure of working with some local businesses and really want to expand on that.

Heart and Seam is more than just a fashion blog, it focuses on wellness and positivity while integrating style. It’s all-encompassing. It’s about feeling good on the inside and out.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
Ahhh! I love this question! I have so many plans for the blog. I’m always thinking of how I can improve the website, new blog posts, etc.

I want to dive deeper into the content and share more, create more resources for my readers. And have a dedicated destination on my site where readers can reference anything from style tips to workouts and recipes.

My husband and I are also in the beginning stages of planning our home renovation. I will be documenting the process and would love to integrate more home styling and entertaining posts on the blog.

It’s truly so exciting to think about it all. There is more, much more but you’ll have to follow along and see what’s next.
