Today we’d like to introduce you to Jane Taylor.
Jane, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have been involved in the sports performance and fitness industry for about 30 years. I remember in the late 80’s, while working at a health club, researching graduate programs that would marry my love of sports, something I have participated in my entire life, with my new found love of strength training. Lo and behold, one could become a Strength and Conditioning Coach and work with athletes in any number of sports. I was sold. In 1992, I was accepted into the Exercise Science Master’s program at UMass-Amherst and was hired as a Graduate Assistant in the Strength and Conditioning Department. And the rest they say is history. 😉
My professional career as a strength and conditioning coach has taken me to the college and private ranks, training athletes in a wide range of sports for improved speed, strength, power, agility, and conditioning, as well as injury prevention. Additionally, I have worked in the health club setting guiding clients from 19-75 years of age to reach their goals of weight loss, better functional strength and cardiovascular fitness, improved nutrition, and improved quality of life.
After battling a challenging back injury for two years, I decided to shake things up and take a year to travel around the world, something I had wanted to do for while. My wife and I sold everything we could, scrimped and saved for almost a year, rented our condo, and in January 2011, we were off! Once we settled back home in Cambridge, I wasn’t sure what I would do, so started training clients where ever I could meet them; outside, at their building’s gym, at a playground, anywhere I could. It took a year to find our current location and happy to say, Raw Fitness Performance is celebrating our 4th year in business!
Has it been a smooth road?
When I first opened the doors of RFP, I had exactly 4 clients; one private and 3 small group. The first 2 years were pretty lean and tough. But today, we have a thriving community of like-minded members who are not looking for the quick fix, but a long-term, sustainable approach to living a happy, healthy, and strong life.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Raw Fitness Performance – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
RFP is a strength and conditioning gym in E. Cambridge dedicated to helping clients and athletes of all ages and ability levels get stronger and better conditioned. We accomplish this by combining top-notch coaching and programming with THE HOTTEST training tools on the market today, such as kettlebells, sandbags, landmines, barbells, dumbbells, battling ropes, etc., in a supportive and challenging environment.
Our mission is to educate, motivate, and inspire our community to achieve optimal levels of health, performance, and body composition that is sustainable for life. Cambridge is a great city, full of diverse, caring individuals who are committed to the larger community. Our RFP members have been involved in clean-up days, donating money and clothes to the E. Cambridge fire victims, as well as supporting the East End House, a community center in Cambridge that provides a wide range of programs and services to a diverse population to strengthen family and community.
