Meet Irina Duchane of Salon Marc Harris

Today we’d like to introduce you to Irina Duchane.

Irina, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
This June marks 14 years since I moved to America. It’s been a fantastic journey so far. In the first few years, I worked at restaurants, hotels and stores. One day I decided that I need to build a career here. I applied for a beauty school in Portsmouth, NH. It was amazing and we had so much fun learning the beauty business. I started working at the salon 2 days after my graduation. It was a beautiful small place with wonderful people who taught me so much. When I moved to MA, I kept traveling to NH for work until the day I was interviewed at Salon Marc Harris.

It’s been almost 10 years working in Downtown Boston and it didn’t get any less interesting and exciting. I definitely can call myself a well-rounded hairstylist. I try not to limit myself in what I do and try to experiment with new techniques and ideas. I color, cut and style. My favorite things to do are very tedious; updos, extensions and full foil colors. This business is very competitive and it’s important to stay current. I believe in continued education and constant growth. Consistency is one of my strong suits!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Sometimes you get discouraged. When something doesn’t come out the way you expected or when a customer is not 100% satisfied. You have to believe in yourself and keep going forward!

Salon Marc Harris – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Salon Marc Harris is one of the most established and well-known names in Boston. I got lucky to become a part of this team. This company cares; cares about stylists, cares about clients, cares about people in general. Over the years we have participated in so many charitable events as well as fundraisers. The salon has 3 locations and each location provides a big variety of services.

What sets us apart is that we don’t just come to work to do hair we bring joy to people. Smiles are our specialty!

What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
I became an in-salon educator for our apprentice staff 3 years ago. It meant a lot to me when Marc Harris asked me to join the education team!
