Today we’d like to introduce you to Nancy Parshley.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Your dream come true.
More than two decades ago, infinite media was founded by a husband and wife team with a dream.
As a young girl, I always wanted to be either an actress or an artist. I danced for 17 years, performed in many high school plays, and studied art in Marblehead with a wonderful mentor. My Mom always told me that if you don’t get the part in the play, design the posters and programs… and so I did. In college, I realized early on that I would be a starving artist if I pursued theater, so graphic design became my passion. They didn’t teach graphic design back in the day, so I found a graphic design company and became the first to “internship” in the art department. It changed the course of my life. I went on to work at Sir Speedy, learning the print industry, designing logos, and more. Next, I worked for a label company and learned even more about the printing industry as I designed intricate 5 and 6 color labels that were printed in the 100s of thousands. After that, I followed in my Dad’s footsteps and went to work at GE. I learned to read blueprints and became a technical illustrator, and I loved it. After 3 years, I was laid off as I had the least seniority. So, I went on to work at another Sir Speedy, but this time as the store manager. Six months later, GE called me back for a temp job as an illustrator for a high security government proposal. Of course, I went back, and while I was there, a posting for a management position as “Print Service Specialist” was listed. I went for it! It was a game changer. My role was to save GE Lynn a million dollars in a year by purchasing printing correctly. It was a position that Joe, my husband now of 29 years, had created. Long story short, I saved the million, went on to manage the print shop, mailroom, photography department, and record retention. I received the first stock options award ever given to a woman in GE, Lynn. Little did I know that those 500 stock options would be the start to our dream. Joe and I married after one year of working together. Joe soon left GE and continued his career as GM of many large printing companies. During that time, Joe would tell me over and over again that I should work for myself and sell. I would laugh it off as I preferred the security of a corporate benefits program. But then in 1993, Joe had convinced me that together we could do anything we set our minds to…and, that we did. On November 1, 1993, we formed Infinite Media, Inc. and have never looked back. I combined my theatrical and graphic design skills to create and sell our services, and Joe was the driving force of the business operations and technology for Infinite. In the first year, we doubled our income, and within 15 months, Joe left the printing industry entirely to dedicate his career completely to our dream.
Here we are nearly 24 years later still working together and continually evolving the company to meet the “Infinite” needs of our clients. We love what we do.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Our journey has been wonderful but the 2008 economy collapse hit us hard. we went from 21 employees to 4. We dug deep and rose from what seemed to be impossible to overcome. Our reputation with steadfast, loyal clients saved us. We actually still serve 3 of those clients 24 years later.
Please tell us about Infinite Media.
At Infinite Media, we love what we do. Every day we get to work with passionate, talented people to help good companies connect with their customers. We find joy in delivering creative, effective work and building relationships based on trust, attentiveness and success. Through every interaction with each of our clients, we take pride in listening well, being flexible and responding quickly, all with an optimistic and energetic attitude.
Founded in 1993 by a husband and wife team, Infinite Media is an independently-owned corporate and marketing communications company. Over the course of our 23-year history we’ve created in just about every medium, working with B2C and B2B clients in a wide range of industries. We have worked in depth within the insurance, financial, energy and telecommunications industries, as well as in education, travel, entertainment, food service, retail, healthcare and real estate. Our team possess the skills and experience to provide high-level branding and marketing strategy, a comprehensive offering of creative services, and deliberate tactical planning and execution for everything from print production to event management.
As founder and chief creative officer, I am a visual artist by both passion and training, so our proficiency in graphic design goes back to before our founding. So naturally, visual design principles and an appreciation of purposeful aesthetics play a fundamental role in virtually every project we undertake. In creating a new brand identity, a cohesive collateral system or a website, this expertise is on full display, but it also guides video and photo shoots, event logistics and even complex form production.
Hand in hand with our expertise in graphic design and direct mail, our specialization in meticulous print production has long been a hallmark of our agency. From postcards and letter packages, to elegant invitations and complex mailers, to sophisticated collateral and creative point-of-purchase, we’ve successfully navigated every aspect of the prepping, proofing, printing, and assembling process.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Pretty sure I wouldn’t do a thing differently.
