Meet Heidi Hamblett of Flowers By Leslie in Portsmouth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Heidi Hamblett.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My love of flowers began when I was a little girl “helping” my grandparents in their garden. I was their young assistant, and my desire to work with nature’s colors and textures grew from those experiences. I studied design and color at Plymouth State University and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in graphic design. I moved to Vermont to snowboard and in the warmer months, I started working at a small flower shop and began to learn everything I could about flowers, that was almost 20 years ago and I haven’t looked back!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There’s always struggles when taking over a small business, but it’s how you handle them that helps you power through!

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Flowers By Leslie – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Flowers by Leslie was started in 1966 by Leslie Clough, it is one of the oldest flower shops in town and we are still family owned. After Leslie passed away his partner Bob took over for a bit until the Johnson family bought it, then the Picard family took over for a few years before my family purchased in 2013. The reason I tell the story is that our super assistant manager has worked with all of the families, so needless to say she has crazy amazing design skills!

We are also so lucky to be in such a great community with amazing loyal customers, and we couldn’t ask for a better location than here on the seacoast!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are excited to start prepping for the holiday season and talking flowers with our 2018 brides!
