Meet Katlyne Louis of Femme Vintage in Dorchester

Today we’d like to introduce you to Katlyne Louis.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
My mother was a seamstress and a collector of vintage pieces, clothing and film. She always believed that fashion was a way women expressed themselves! Growing up, she made clothes for women in her church and her community. I caught my fashion senses from her, everything I wear is an expression of my art.

I am married with one child( Josiah Louis). I’m married to a wonderful husband for 12yrs Pastor Jean Louis of Free Pentecostal Church of God in Dorchester.

Femme Vintage was birthed in 2012 but it was cut short because in 2013, my mother was diagnosed with breast cancer. I had to pause everything because I was her caregiver. My mom was my only living parent and I wanted to be there for her throughout her fight in her journey. During the process my mother taught me to fight for my dream and make a difference in a person’s life one clothing at a time. She knew my love for fashion runs deep in me.

I founded a non-profit organization called Chosen Women Of Worth, Inc. (CWOW) to create an atmosphere to remind women of their purpose. We host events and conference for women to provide resources, network and empowerment. My mother was my pillar of strength to encourage and remind me of my purpose. CWOW, Inc. had a conference this year with a theme called Purpose Driven and it was very personal to me because I knew I needed to relaunch Femme Vintage again. Women from our social media and even in the streets would stop me to ask me question about my clothes or about Femme Vintage return.

I realized that even when I pause on Femme Vintage, I was still styling, be a personal shopper, organize closets. I knew I had to come back even though, it reminded me so much of my dear mother. Femme Vintage is not just a company that sells vintage clothes or vintage inspired clothes but it’s a company that believes in changing how women see themselves in the mirror. It’s a ministry! It’s showing women to embrace their flaws and realized that they are still beautiful.

Femme Vintage has relaunch their website on Monday, Oct 30th 2017 www.femmevintage.net we provide vintage clothing, accessories and a service called Shop and Sip. It is a service where you can gather 10 or more of your closest friends to shop from our collection, sip on wine and have fun. We have also expand our plus size section called FV Plus Beauties , which provide vintage inspired items for women sizes 1x-3x.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The road was not easy! Facing my insecurities was one. I’m a plus size women and I love fashion. It took a while for me to embrace who I am. Now, I’m my own model for the Plus Beauties collection from my boutique!
