Meet Evan Scales of Evan Scales Visuals

Today we’d like to introduce you to Evan Scales.

Evan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
Started in the summer of 2014 doing graphic design, then moved to film (where I wanted to be) by the end of that summer. I’ve been doing freelance film and photography ever since. I’m lucky enough to shoot a wide range of subjects in both mediums. In 2016, I started shooting a lot of sports photography simply for the love of it, and that’s become a big part of my photography portfolio. But I also love events and commercial stuff. I’ve been playing with cameras ever since I was very young – I remember saving up for the first Flip camcorder. It’s what I love to do!

Has it been a smooth road?
Getting into the business side of things and becoming as proficient with that as possible was tough, but it came with practice (just like everything else). Finding clients became easier as word of mouth became stronger – now I’m able to keep myself at a comfortable work level, doing the projects that I want to be doing.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I’m very proud that Evan Scales Visuals is just as certified and as technically up-to-date as some of the larger agencies.

Is our city a good place to do what you do?
I love Boston. It’s a bustling city with a lot going on, including in my field. Because of this, there’s a lot of competition, but I think that it’s good to start in Boston because of that. It creates more drive to be better.
