Meet Elizabeth and David Silva of EL Camino Foods in Southern New Hampshire

Today we’d like to introduce you to Elizabeth and David Silva.

Elizabeth and David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
When I lived in Puerto Rico as a young girl I loved to visit my grandmother because she would spend hours teaching me how to cook authentic recipes that had been handed down through generations. Our homes were separated by a long, winding road through the hills and mountains called “El Camino.” When I asked my mother if I could go to grandma’s house, she would say “go ahead and take El Camino.” This road separated us, but at the same time, united us. Still to this day, whenever I am cooking, I fondly remember my visits with her and walking along that winding road to see her, thus the reason a graphic depiction of that road is included in our logo. My grandmother cooked with love and now I am happy and proud to share that love with you. All El Camino Foods’ dishes are made with the finest authentic ingredients and seasonings, so you can fully experience the rich, full flavor of traditional Puerto Rican cuisine.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Our products and catering services has been great success throughout Southern New Hampshire and Boston area. Our biggest struggle has been getting financing to develop our own brick and mortal space.

Please tell us about El Camino Foods.
Authentic Puerto Rican food is very hard to find in suburban communities. That’s why we operate at local farmers markets and fairs. Most products are available for purchase frozen or in ‘Ready-to-Eat form. This concept provides the customer the convenience of trying the food firsthand and then deciding whether to take home frozen entries to be consumed at their leisure. In addition, our catering menu offers Puerto Rico’s most iconic delights. We have been in business since 2014 with great success.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Cooking side by side with my grandmother or aunt.
