Meet Edward and Bessie Curtis of Curtis Cabinetry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward and Bessie Curtis.

Curtis Cabinetry was founded by Edward Curtis in 1987. After working as a licensed general contractor remodeling homes, he opened a workshop in Middleton, MA and turned his focus to kitchen cabinets. Ed’s combined background as a general contractor and skilled cabinetmaker gives him the ability to design with real-world knowledge of construction costs and challenges. From a one-man shop, Curtis Cabinetry has grown to a team of eight. His son, Brian, joined the company over ten years ago working his way up from shop worker to production manager. Ed’s wife Bess joined in 2014 and manages the day-to-day operations of the business. Their success is due to their team of dedicated and experienced cabinetmakers, installers, and shop workers.

By May 2016, they moved to Georgetown to their newly renovated 12,000 square foot building that allows for a very efficient workshop. Even more exciting, their large showroom with over 3,000 square feet of cabinet displays enables their customers to view their products and discover which is the perfect fit for their home.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not always been a smooth road. In fact, we’re hopeful that the smooth road is just around the corner! In addition to the growing pains of any business, purchasing and renovating our new facility was a huge endeavor, one that most companies wouldn’t even contemplate. It was not as easy as packing up a few boxes and moving.

Coordinating the renovation of the new building, designing the new facility to be a more cohesive work space and showroom, the move itself, all while conducting the regular cabinet business, certainly tested once again our persistence in fulfilling our dream. No, it has not always been a smooth road, but we can certainly look back and see how far we’ve come!

Please tell us about Curtis Cabinetry.
Curtis Cabinetry is an established, family-owned and operated kitchen cabinet business serving the North Shore, Merrimack Valley and Greater Boston areas since 1987. We work directly with homeowners, builders, developers, contractors, and interior designers. Our experienced and knowledgeable team uses state-of-the-art software and shop equipment to design, manufacture, and install high-quality cabinetry that is aesthetically pleasing and functionally superior. We use only the best hardware and materials for long-lasting fit and finish.

We specialize in frameless cabinetry including custom kitchen cabinets, bathroom vanities, entertainment centers, home offices, mudrooms and other built-ins designed in Traditional, Transitional, Contemporary and Shaker styles.

Our new kitchen and bath showroom allows our customers to experience first-hand the quality and style of our cabinets in addition to the many innovative storage solutions displayed throughout the showroom.

Besides our level of detail and quality of our work, we’re known for our personalized service, reliability and commitment to meeting or exceeding our customer’s deadlines and expectations. One of our repeat customers quoted, “I have been in the construction industry for over 30 years. I have never met a man like Ed Curtis who is so detailed oriented! Their new showroom is over the top! You can touch and feel the different looks and designs. I have used over seven cabinet companies and designs in the past. I need to search no longer – Curtis Cabinetry does it all and I will continue to use them.” In a nutshell, we’re happy when our customers are happy! At the end of a job, it’s a great feeling to hear back from our customers and their level of satisfaction. It truly makes it all worthwhile!

There are a few things that set us apart from others. We “design, build and install” our cabinetry. Many competitors do not include installation in their pricing as they may refer to outside installers, while we have installers on our staff so we can offer the whole package “Design, Build, Install”. Our new facility is another thing that sets us apart from others.

Besides the size and quality of our showroom, many kitchen showrooms display box cabinets built by other out-of-state manufacturers while we display custom made cabinetry that we build right here on site in our adjacent facility giving us the edge in producing cabinets to our customer’s specifications. Our frameless cabinetry designs make for a superior fit and finish.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
Persevere, sometimes things don’t always go as planned. Move on and persevere.
