Meet Edward Borash of Sir Speedy Printing, Marketing and Signs in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Edward Borash.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
We started in 1979. I didn’t have money after graduating from Salem State University. I had a close friend that was the drummer for the rock group Boston. He lent me $25,000 and I paid him back $50,000. He always told me it was his best investment.

Our first year in business we broke sales records for Sir Speedy Corporate. We had the highest sales ever for a first-year store. At the time there were 840 stores worldwide. From there every year we were in there top 5 stores. The business has grown to be a staple in the back bay. A majority of printers have gone out of business. Mainly because of the computer age. We survived and now stronger than ever. Everyone does printing 1 time or another.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
As I said before the biggest struggle was the computer age. So many printers went out of business at this time. We tighten our belts and dug in.

Sir Speedy Printing, Marketing, and Signs – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
We satisfy every customer. It can be a $1.00 job or a $20,000 job. Our mission is to make sure the customer is 100 percent satisfied. We do everything in-house. That means we can live up to our name Sir Speedy. I can’t remember meeting a deadline. There are many conventions that come to Boston. We make sure that all their meeting materials are done on time and done right.

In-house we do full color, posters, mailings, books, business cards, letterhead, envelopes, NCR, We have done 400,000 impressions overnight. What sets us apart is we are 100 percent for every job and every customer.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
Success is keeping customers and employees happy. We try to make sure our customers come back forever. We also try to keep our employees forever.
