Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Richmond and Chad Goldstein.
DJ and Chad, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
DJ Richmond: Soon after graduating with my bachelor’s degree in Finance from Suffolk University, I started working for one of the largest commercial real estate companies in the world. While working in the Finance and Accounting departments, I was able to see how profitable certain real estate investments products were, both REIT’s and the physical property themselves. Not only did this invigorate a passion of mine to get into real estate investing personally, it also left me searching for more than my standard 9-5 day job crunching numbers in excel. I wanted to be more involved in these key investing decisions and to feel I’ve made a real impact.
Naturally, peoples largest investments are their homes – thus a career as a real estate agent was born. I wanted to fulfill a need to my clients, especially those that seek to obtain investment properties and help navigate them through the sales process while giving them access to my knowledge. I made the decision in 2015 to join forces with an old childhood friend, Chad Goldstein, who was thriving in this business. I was the first member of his team and I believe I owe a lot of my success to the knowledge and experience he has been able to share with me.
Chad Goldstein: My Journey into Real Estate began in 2010 after reading NY times best seller Rich Dad Poor Dad by Robert Kiyosaki. The book motivated me to pursue a self-directed education into the world of Investments and the more I read, the more it became clear to me that financial independence was possible and Real Estate was a commonly used investment vehicle to get there. I started looking for an investment property and had worked with a few Real Estate agents to assist in my search, none of which I felt were really looking out for my best interest.
The further into the process I went, the more it became apparent to me that I needed to further my education in Real Estate, so I went out and got my license. I’ve always had a passion for helping others achieve their goals, so naturally, I began helping friends, family members and others I came across that were interested in learning about investing in Real Estate, looking to purchase or Rent Real Estate, or had interest in becoming a licensed agent themselves. I quickly became a top selling Real Estate professional in the firm I had chosen to hang my license with, and as I continued to progress, made the decision to form a company of my own in an attempt to create an organization that truly focuses day in and day out on improving the quality of service it provides to those they serve. On January 1, 2016, my
business partner and I created “The Next Big Name in Real Estate” Gold Key Realty.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
DJ Richmond: As a real estate agent, there are always bumps in the road. This can range from having to be responsive to clients almost 24/7 to having Saturdays and Sundays fully booked up to accommodate showings, inspections, meetings, etc. Additionally, there is no steady paycheck – You’re only worth your last commission check. Thankfully, my fiancé is incredibly supportive of my career choice and allows me to do what I love.
Chad Goldstein: Is it ever a smooth road? When being passionate about what you’re doing, especially when that passion stems from helping others, it’s not easy to be complacent. I work very hard to deliver incredible results and provide exceptional service to both the agents I mentor and the client’s I serve. I’m always looking for ways to push the envelope and improve the service we as a company provides. For the most part, I have been very fortunate to work with, and for some very incredible clients and business partners.
Gold Key Realty – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
DJ Richmond: We are a real estate brokerage company that serves a variety of needs to our clients. We work with first time home buyers, seasoned real estate investors, new real estate investors, clients looking for a house upgrade or downsize, renters, and others.
With my background working for commercial real estate investment companies, I naturally work with a lot of investor clients, some who are making their first investment property purchase. I also have extensive knowledge of the renovation process – perfect for clients who want to make some upgrades so that they can sell for top dollar. On the other side, my buyers who don’t want to pay premium prices for move-in ready homes – I can walk them through a property to give them a vision of a home that has a good foundation and structure but in need of a “makeover”.
I believe what sets our team apart from the competition is the diversity we bring. We have a lot of educated agents who bring such a dynamic background including Military Vets, CPA’s, IT professionals, MBA’s, Real Estate investors, and other business students.
Chad Goldstein: Gold Key Realty is a newer Real Estate company based on the South Shore headquartered in Norwell, that specializes in Residential Real Estate Sales and coaching Real Estate Agents and Investors in managing and securing Investment property. The company currently has 30 agents spread out across Massachusetts and we are planning to add 20 more over the next few years. We as a company have been able to build new as well as seasoned agents from the
ground up and make them into high performing, successful, Real Estate professionals where client’s rave about the service these individuals provide. To me, seeing others succeed in realizing their goals is what makes me so proud to call Gold Key Realty, my company.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
DJ Richmond: The proudest moment of my career has been not only growing my book of business from 0 to almost $7M in less than 2 years, but the relationships made along the way. It’s incredibly rewarding meeting new potential clients and seeing these professional relationships turn into close personal relationships. On the other side, its been so rewarding offering my services to some of my friends and family and serving their real estate needs.
Being able to have the confidence and the ability to walk away from a well paying and stable career in accounting and tackling the unknown has been very rewarding on a personal level. I love working for myself in a career I enjoy where every day brings something new.
Chad Goldstein: I’ve been a top performing Real Estate Professional for the past 4 consecutive years.
What many people do not know about me is that I was doing Real Estate FULL TIME while also managing a fulltime job in the world of benefits administration. I was averaging 90 to 100 hours a week between both professions, and on August 5th of 2016, I decided that it was time to leave the corporate world, and dedicate 100% of my time toward helping others achieve their goals in the highly competitive Real Estate arena. The transition into Real Estate being my sole focus, has been the proudest moment of my career this far!
