Meet David Melo of Digital Poseidon in Boston’s Financial District

Today we’d like to introduce you to David Melo.

David, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am 34 years old and the owner of Digital Poseidon, a search engine optimization agency based in Boston, Massachusetts. Back in 2007, my father Raul Melo who owns The Steam Master, a cleaning company in Taunton, Massachusetts needed me to work on his business website. After a month I was actually able to complete his website. Prior to this, I had zero knowledge of website building or how the search engines worked. I also didn’t know what search engine optimization was or that it even existed. For months we would look on Google and other search engines to see if his business website would show up in the search engines results.

It didn’t. At that time his business was struggling and my family was in financial strains. I eventually stumbled on an article online about what SEO was and how to implement it. I also began reading everything I could about the subject, buying books, watching YouTube, and asking questions on many forums. I then began implementing what I learned, trying and tweaking things here or there until it all started working and coming together. His business website was starting to get found on page one of Google and his business began to soar.

At that time he went from 40,000 a year to over $150,000 dollars in just under a year. His first page rankings stayed there for a few years. Then one day out of nowhere it dropped. I was no longer able to find him on the first page of the search engines and his competitors were taking away new business. Though some of his clients kept him afloat, the lack of new business was starting to hurt him again financially. I was forced to work harder constantly looking for new SEO techniques to help his business.

SEO as we knew it was evolving and changing. Google and other search engines were getting stricter. The SEO I learned and practiced at that time was a cross between black hat and gray hat. I was so desperate to help my family that I ended up getting a Google Penalty de-indexing my father’s site from the search engine completely. After hours of speaking to Google via support and people in many forums, I began to realize that some of what I was doing was against the search engines policies. This forced me back to square one learning what white hat SEO was, and how to implement it. I began to implement it and got his website re-indexed and back on top. From that day forward I began working as an SEO consultant for myself helping friends businesses get more exposure and customers online.

Fast forward to 2015 I met a nationally recognized SEO who suggested that I form an SEO company. He even taught me the ropes. All these years and I didn’t think to do that. That year I started Digital Poseidon and we began growing slowly. It started off with just me and now I currently have 4 employees. We are expanding at such a rate that I will probably have to hire 8 employees by the year’s end.

We have helped hundreds of businesses rank on the first page of Google without fail to generate my clients over 1500% return on investment at times.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth ride. I had to learn what SEO was from scratch at my family’s expense. Though in the end, it worked out some of what I was implementing was actually causing my family’s business website harm causing it to be de-indexed at one point, which in turn caused them to lose new business.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Digital Poseidon – what should we know?
Digital Poseidon is a search engine optimization company based in Boston, Massachusetts. At this time our main companies focus is only SEO. We help businesses that are not found on the first page of Google to be found and to gain exposure. This helps bring people who are actually searching for our client’s products and services to be connected to them, which in turn helps my customers generate new clients, leads, and revenue.

I am proud of my company’s accomplishments and growth. We are on our way to doubling our revenue in one year what it took us two years to accomplish. All this while helping my clients expand and grow their business.

What sets our company apart from the rest is that we can actually show clients and potential clients our results. We show them proof. Part of our services is that we actually make sure our client’s website is optimized for conversion to not only bring potential customers but to get their website to turn them into actual paying customers.

Unlike other companies we don’t take your money and don’t deliver. We go through a checklist and perform a thorough analysis of the website and business to make sure that we can actually get them the results we say we can. Integrity is our company’s life blood. Without it, you have no business.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I want to thank my wife for her encouragement, my parents, and grandparents for believing in my abilities and the rest of the team at Digital Poseidon who makes going to work not only a pleasure but without them I wouldn’t have accomplished so much so fast.
