Meet Danielle Farnsworth of Domenic’s Cakes and Catering

Today we’d like to introduce you to Danielle Farnsworth.

Danielle, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
About 10 years ago, I took a cake decorating class and realized it was something I really enjoyed and happened to be pretty good at. It still remained just a hobby, making my kids’ birthday cakes and for other family members on occasion, while working my full time nursing job. Then I met Chris. Chris is a professional chef with over 20 years of experience in the food industry. As our relationship grew, we began discussing starting a business together. We work well together, we both love food and together we make a great culinary team. In 2016, we started Domenic’s Cakes and Catering, right from our home. When choosing a name for our business we wanted it to be meaningful. My Dad, Domenic, who passed away in 2005 had a true love of food, and as I grew up he was always involved in some way in the food industry. If he were here, he would be thrilled and be our number one supporter in this venture. The business is quickly growing and we are enjoying every minute of it! We recently participated in the New England Dessert Showcase as vendors at our first public event, and it went amazingly well. Our Maple Bacon Cupcake was voted “Most Unique Dessert” and Best Cake/Cupcake”! Chris and I are very excited for the opportunity to grow this business together.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Is any road ever smooth? One struggle has been in there just never being enough hours in the day! We both still hold our full time jobs, me as a nurse, Chris as a chef. We also have 5 children between us so that keeps us pretty busy. Overall, we can’t complain too much…yet.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Domenic’s Cakes and Catering – what should we know?
We specialize in cupcakes and custom cakes, for any occasion. We also provide full service event catering, using the freshest ingredients to create homemade, traditional Italian dishes. Our specialty cupcakes are quite popular, with a variety of delicious, fun and unique flavors. Our cakes are meticulously decorated and equally tasty.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
I think the willingness to work, and work hard is definitely so important. Along with constant attempts at improvement. I also think that in enduring the stress of a business (and in life in general) that being able to work closely with another person, and functioning well as a team is crucial to becoming successful. This business, in a sense, is treated like our 6th child, our “baby” that we are constantly nurturing and helping to grow.
