Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniel McAuliffe.
Daniel, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started in the antique business 25 years ago as a restorer. Shortly after starting my own restoration shop, a dealer offered me the opportunity to consign merchandise in his downtown Boston store. Thru this experience I saw the potential for selling upscale furniture and accessories in a low cost industrial space.
In 1999 that dealer, Jerry Freeman, joined me and The Barn at 17 was founded 10 minutes from Boston. The Barn at 17 became a favorite source for some of Boston’s finest designers.
As a restorer, I have an inherent appreciation for beautiful furniture and is a pleasure to make a living in this field.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The primary challenge, I find is to remain current and maintain a unique inventory, whether it be 18th century or 20th century pieces that will work in today’s home.
