Meet Courtney Aldrich of Traveler Beauty Company in Auburn

Today we’d like to introduce you to Courtney Aldrich.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Courtney. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
My story started back in 2009 when I was on Active Duty in The United States Air Force. I really enjoyed being in the military, but after marrying my husband Shawn, and having our first daughter Sophia, I realized that I wanted a career that would allow me to follow my passion for beauty and be a stay at home mom. In 2012 I said goodbye to my military career and began Cosmetology School where I officially passed all my exams and received my license. (Talk about night and day career change!!)

My first post-military job was at a higher-end Salon in Wayland, where I was an assistant. While I didn’t do a lot of hair, I did learn A LOT…specifically about how to treat clients and to pamper everyone who walked in the door. I remember saying to a stylist “I wish I could own a high-end salon that everyone could afford to come to.” She said “that defeats the whole purpose! They pay good money so that’s why they get great service!” Looking back, this conversation was when I first started to think about my business idea.

I then moved on to work for a company that was similar to ours, where we would travel to Brides on their Wedding Day. It didn’t take me long to realize this is exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to put my own personal touch and my own ideas and integrity into it, so I knew I had to move on and create a business I could call my own. One week before my second daughter Isabelle was born, I officially launched Traveler Beauty Company. This was on January 1, 2017. It is a complete family affair working with my sister in-law Julie Pichel, who is my confidant and head stylist. Without her support and incredible talent, Traveler Beauty Company may have never gotten off to the great start that it has. Our webpage designer is my brother, Mark Pichel. He is my go-to for all things technical, and has been a key player in our business. With less than 10 months since our debut, we have far exceeded my expectations for our first year and my anticipation for the future is positively overwhelming.

Has it been a smooth road?
The past 9 months have been full of bumps but I have learned so much along the way. I have no business administration training and learning how to manage finances, employees, scheduling, and marketing while juggling two children has been a huge learning curve for me. It also took a while for me to figure out where to place our service price point at. I want every client to be able to afford our services and receive the outstanding attention and experience they deserve, while being able to compensate my employees for the incredible, dedicated work they perform. After countless hours of research in our targeted industry and our market location… I’m confident we are exactly where we are meant to be!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Traveler Beauty Company story. Tell us more about the business.
Traveler Beauty Company provides expert- on location Hair and Makeup services all across New England…and beyond! We want to take the pressure off of the client from having to travel to a salon, especially on their wedding day. It’s stressful for a Bride to book their Hair Stylist and then find another Makeup Artist willing to travel, particularly if it’s a destination wedding. To eliminate the stresses of booking multiple businesses we provide both Hair and the Makeup. The Makeup we use is top of the line Airbrush from Kett Cosmetics. Its waterproof, smudge-proof, hypoallergenic, gluten free, vegan and cruelty free. It works great on all skin types and ages and is guaranteed to last 16 hours, so there is no worry that our clients look will fade. Our stylists have each had many hours of additional special occasion/bridal hair styling classes, to stay current with each year’s new hair trends and bridal looks. The Hair products we generally use on our clients range from Moroccanoil, Kenra, Joico and recently Monat.

What sets us apart from Salons is just that-we are not a Salon, but an on location specialized hair and makeup service that will go anywhere anyone needs us. Our mission is to provide 5-star treatment on a budget that is attainable by the majority of our clientele. I believe that everyone should have the opportunity to be pampered and made to feel as beautiful as they truly are! Our main focus is primarily on Brides however, we also provide Hair and Makeup for Proms, Senior Photos, Engagement Photos, Family Portraits, Functions, Bachelorette Parties etc. If the client would rather come to us, we do have a studio located in Auburn MA where they are always welcome to get pampered! We call it The Traveler Boutique.

We are a beauty business but we also pride ourselves on our customer service. I want every client to feel special, and that all their expectations are heard and being met. All the stylists who work for TBC are licensed Cosmetologists and are dedicated and meticulous with all of our clients. I am so lucky to have a team of motivated and enthusiastic stylists who love what they do and take their time to customize each individuals experience. It’s my team who really makes Traveler Beauty Company a success!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I believe in the next 5-10 years its going to be the “norm” to have Hair and Makeup Artists travel to their clients, especially for Weddings. To keep our business highlighted in this growing industry, we need to place emphasis on our flexibility and traveling capability along with our excellent customer service. I also want to see Traveler Beauty Company expand across the United States and eventually internationally. I have so many ideas on where I want our business to go in the future so I hope we can follow up with the Boston Voyager and tell you about all of our new ventures!
