Today we’d like to introduce you to Clay Fernald.
Clay, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I graduated Mass Art with a Media degree in 1998. From there I worked in book publishing for a few years, until I got a job temping in graphic design. I started working nights at Middle East and worked my way up until I finally scored an office job there as an assistant. Fast forward to years later, I was the general manager, and now I am the publicist and press relations agent.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
There are always struggles, but that is part of the journey. Being on the forefront of online ticketing and social media innovations has been the biggest and most important part of the job.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
The Middle East is known for a diverse calendar, delicious food and world famous hospitality. We are different because we are an independent entity. We recently bought the building that houses the complex and are opening a new club SONIA at 10 Brookline St. This is our first new venture in a long time, and it is exciting.
What were you like growing up?
I was always hanging with the artistic crowd. Musicians, painters. People who were a little against the grain, but mostly I could hang with most social groups without being a complete outsider. Other than that, I always wanted to paint or draw comics. Someday!
