Meet Christine Brown of Klever Klippers Salon in Townsend

Today we’d like to introduce you to Christine Brown.

Christine, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
In 1983, I graduated from Continental Academie Of Hair in Hudson, NH. While in school I had to create a mock hair salon with a business plan. My dad was an engineer and always wanted to start his own business. So, I asked him for his help with creating the business plan. After graduation, he kept pushing me to open a salon. I told him I wasn’t ready and needed to learn the business first.

Dad was an avid fisherman and loved the Squannicook River in Townsend. He kept telling me that there was a new mall being built near where he fished on the Squannicook and we should open a salon. After working at a salon in Chelmsford, MA for 3 years and listening to my dad’s excitement, we opened Klever Klippers Salon on August 12, 1987. It was brand new and we were the only “up-Scale” salon in the area! At 23 years old, I was now a salon owner, manager and hair stylist. I worked 12 hour days from open to close, 6 days a week for a year until I could build the business and staff. My mom answered the phones, made appointments and did all the bookkeeping. Dad stayed behind the scenes analyzing the business.

After 2 years and a solid business in place, my husband and I started our family. With the partnership of my parents and a solid staff in place, I was able to reduce my hours for the duration of raising my children. After 15 years, I bought out my parents and they were able to retire. I’ve run the business on my own ever since. I am where I am today due to hard work and dedication.
So here we are 30 years later….. I’ve had the privilege of working with some of the best hairstylists in the area! Some have stayed and some have moved on but Klever Klippers Salon would be nothing without them and I appreciate all of their great talents today and over the years!

Has it been a smooth road?
Hell no! Owning a business is the hardest thing anyone can do! Staffing is always the biggest hurdle.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
