Meet Cheryl Pasinato of East Celebrity Elite in Tewksbury

Today we’d like to introduce you to Cheryl Pasinato.

Cheryl, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
We started as two different cheer gyms, East Elite and Celebrity Cheer. We were rival gyms and competed against each other. In 2009 we decided to merge and become one power hose gym and were able to offer our athletes the best staff and coaches. We are an all-star gym that has grown to six locations including 3 locations in Massachusetts, one in New Hampshire, and two in Connecticut. We train kids in competitive cheer and also offer many other services including gym rental space, camps, and clinics, youth and high school training for cheerleaders, choreography, tumbling classes and birthday parties. Both of our gyms started in the 90’s with one team each and we have grown into a program with over 700 athletes and over 40 teams. We have been very successful winning hundreds of National Championships and are also two times World Champions. The athletes in all of our gyms are trained by professional coaches and are taught progression through all skill sets. We have a team for every age and ability level. Our athletes star as young as 4 years old and go up through high school. We also have teams for kids that are out of high school as well.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It hasn’t always been a smooth road. In the years between 2007-2009, the economy was not great and many people were losing their jobs. This was a period where most families have to make decisions on where to spend their money. Although many pt their kids first it was a tough financial situation for many. This was when we lost kids and decided to merge to stay as a Nationally ranked program. It was one of the best decisions we ever made. The other struggles were none of the owners have a background in business so we made mistakes along the way but learned so much from each and every mistake. It has made us such a strong business today and a leader in our industry.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about East Celebrity Elite – what should we know?
We are most proud of our staff. We have the largest coaching and tumbling staff in our area. All of our coaches are committed to making each and every athlete progress at their own speed and will work diligently to see each kid succeed. We are a competitive sport so we do like to win and we train to win but what is most important to us is that our athletes learn confidence, make life-long friends and memories and learn life lessons along the way. It is important to us that all of our students have role-models to look up to in their coaches. We are known for being a gym that has had much success in the are of competition across the country but the impact we have on each child in their journey is so much more important. To see a young athlete come to us at 4-6 years old and to be able to watch that young child grow up to be an awesome young adult doesn’t compare to any trophy or banner.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
So many people deserve credit. Our dear friend Sheila Hulings is the one who told us to open a gym as we used to just rent space out of a high school with 2 small teams. Other gym owners in the industry who started before us have been mentors including Elaine Pascale from World Cup in NJ. Our customers have been there and always have been our biggest supporters and greatest advertisement. All of our staff has made us who we are. Our gym directors who manage the teams have done an amazing job as well. OUR ATHLETES are always #1. Their work ethic and the pride they possess to wear the ECE logo is evident in each and every practice and competition.
