Meet Brianna Pilarski of Massages by Brianna in Chelmsford

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brianna Pilarski.

Brianna, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I have always considered myself an intuitive person who likes to care for others. I grew up knowing two things: that I wanted to be a mother and that I wanted to help people. When I was 18 and a senior in high school, I read an article about the health benefits of massage therapy. The article grabbed my attention because it made me realize that massage therapy promotes better health in every single system in the body. I had never heard of an easier way to aid the entire body before.

Upon reading that article, I right away became interested in becoming a massage therapist. I found a school in Hudson NH, New Hampshire Institute for Therapeutic Arts soon after and enrolled right after I finished high school. I attended the school for 2009/2010 and received my certificate and license in early 2011.

My goal was to start my own business, and after a few years of working as an employee in Burlington and Westford, I founded Massages by Brianna in 2013 in Chelmsford MA. I was also pregnant with my son at the time of starting my business, and I was so excited to start a new chapter of my life.

I have built up a wonderful clientele of so many amazing people-without these people coming to see me for regular massages, I would not get to do what I love. I owe so much to them. I also feel so thankful to my family-my boyfriend, and my parents who get to enjoy their Daddy and grandparent time while I am working.

I am so grateful to be able to balance my work around my family life. I am able to spend most of my time with my 3 (almost 4!) year old son, and I also get to do what I love for work. I truly feel balanced in my life.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
It has been a pretty smooth road and I consider myself a very lucky person. I knew that starting my business was going to require patience because to build up a quality clientele base that was going to take a little time. I chose not to do any advertising initially other than a Yelp page, word of mouth, and referrals from a chiropractor, because I wanted my massages to be my selling point, not a discount or sale to draw people in.

To this day I have not relied on any advertising, which I believe has been an asset to keeping up the quality of my business.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Massages by Brianna – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
My business is Massages by Brianna. I do massage therapy, specializing in deep tissue and sports massage. Some people have told me I use the “seek and destroy” method for reducing tension because I focus a lot on relieving muscles with deep layers of tension. I can customize my massages to help anyone, whether they are recovering from a sports injury, want relief from daily stress or just have a lot of built up tension.

I think what sets me apart from similar businesses is passion, motivation, and confidence. I absolutely love what I do and people tell me during their massage that they can tell I do. I consider myself a motivated person because I work very hard-I wake up early every morning to run, stretch and strengthen my body and I eat healthily in order to have the energy to spend time running around with my son and to give the best massage treatments I can every day.

I also have confidence in my own capabilities and I never doubt my ability to make each client feel better after their massage.

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
My plans for the future are to continue operating my business and to expand my work hours when my son is in elementary school. Right now I work evenings and weekends in order to be with him during the day, so when he is in school more I will add hours during the day.

The beauty of running my business is that I have the control over all the details, including what hours I work and what hours I do not. I plan on doing massage therapy for as long as I can, which is one reason why I try to stay as healthy as possible.
