Meet Brian Bednarek of MESH01 in Portsmouth

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brian Bednarek.

Brian, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I grew up in and around Boston and have lived, worked and studied all around Massachusetts. I’ve always had a great deal of passion for how sports and technology come together – particularly the ways in which crowd-sourcing can broaden the possibilities for individual brands. My goal was to create a company that allowed me to put that passion to work while creating a new model for how manufacturers design, test and market new products. I founded MESH01 in 2010 and ran it on my own for the first 18 months. Today, we have an in-house staff of 11 (and growing), plus a 25,000-person community of designers and testers. We leverage the strength of a global team so our customers have access to the talent and consumer segments they need.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Every small company struggles along the way, and we’re certainly no exception. But we’ve been able to grow our operation steadily since the beginning, even given the sometimes limited human and capital resources we’ve had to work with. We’ve been careful not to charge forward at a risky pace – even though it’s sometimes tempting to do so. Tempering our growth has allowed us to keep a sharper focus on market opportunities that open up so that we can respond strategically, rather than hungrily, when they present themselves. We have remained true to our core strengths while building awareness and credibility.

MESH01 – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?

Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Boston is a good place for anything! Although our headquarters are about an hour away from downtown, I come to the city frequently. Every time I’m there, I marvel at what a great city it is. I never get tired of its spirit, its vibe or its history. There’s such a wonderful sense of community and a fantastic set of sports traditions – which is why MESH01 fits in so well.
