Meet Jules of Beyond Beauty and Lash Lounge in North Shore

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jules .

Jules, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I always knew I wanted to be in the beauty industry somehow when I was in highshcool. I always loved playing with make-up and popping zits in my free time and my aunt suggested esthetics school. My parents unfortunately at the time didn’t believe that was a good path for me so I enrolled in community college to please them. Let me just say flat out I am not a school person, it just wasn’t for me. I attended community college for about 2 years and I say attended loosely because I barely went to class. I knew in my gut this wasn’t for me so I decided to take matters into my own hands and dropped out without telling them. I did some research on esthetics schools in my area and narrowed it down to two Elizabeth Grady and Catherine Hinds. After decided which one I wanted to interview with I emailed my mom telling her I dropped out what my plans were and if she would kindly reply to the email instead of calling me. She told me Dad and she did email me back. They weren’t thrilled to say the least but they were trusting me anyways. My mom came to the interview with me and I was sold I signed up in the fall to attend in the new year. This was the best decision I have ever made in my life. I have a career that I absolutely love and on top of that has always left me with an open mind. Being around people all the time and being able to influence how they feel about themselves in a positive way sparked something in me. I decided to try yoga and I had been practicing on and off but I became more consistent a few years after I graduated esthetics school. I loved the way it made me feel and how it helped me interact with the world. I wanted to be more involved in this world so I decided to become Reiki certified, then went to be certified again in as a Reiki 2 practitioner. Again I loved how I was influencing the way people felt about themselves in a positive way and wanted to learn more. I enrolled in yoga teacher training at Barrr and Soul and graduated recently from that. I have to say it changed my life in the most positive way. My goals now are focused on how I can combine both of these worlds together, Beauty and mindfulness all in one. Here I am 6 years later owner of a my own small business, a master lash artist and educator, a reiki practitioner and yoga instructor and am apart of an amazing podcast with two of my best friends and the goal list keeps getting longer. It’s satisfying to see where I started to where I am now and to see what the future holds as well.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I would say it has had it’s ups and downs for sure. I feel like as an entrepreneur you have days where you feel on top of the world and that you’re the most magical business person ever, and then there’s the other days where you question why you’re doing what you’re doing and are living in a fear based mind that you made a mistake starting in the first place. There were days I would question if I was going to make enough money to pay my rent that month, or listening to other people’s negative opinions about what you’re doing or not doing. Like recently the place I was renting for esthetics had a water heater blow up and flooded the whole spa. They had to remove the rugs, the floor boards, even the ceilings! I had to go and remove everything I had owned in my little room and get rid of whatever was ruined. Despite that happening I still had an opportunity to move to another space and continue doing what I love to do. One thing I’ve learned is that there will always be struggles along the way but I remind myself of why I got started in the first place. It makes it all worth it when I get a text from a client after a long day saying how amazing i’ve made them feel and that they couldn’t be happier. There will always be struggles big or small but I’ve learned how to handle myself in those situations and because of that I can handle whatever is being thrown at me. My suggestion is always remain positive and patient even when it seems impossible.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Beyond Beauty and Lash Lounge story. Tell us more about the business.
First I wanted to say I am in the midst of changing my name to match more of what I am offering. So stay tuned for that! But I offer esthetics and mindful services and they include eyelash extensions, facials, eyelash and eyebrow tinting, waxing, wedding and event makeup, reiki, meditation, and yoga. I am known best for my eyelash extension services as they are certainly one of my favorite things to do and I am also an educator of lash extensions. I am most proud of as a company that I offer more than beauty services, that I am able to connect with my clients, and help them to feel their most beautiful on the inside and out. I feel like what sets me apart from others is that I am not just offering a service but a little mini getaway from their day to day life. That I’m able to make every client that sees me comfortable and that they’re always leaving me feeling lighter and brighter than when they came in. I feel like connection is very important even if someone just wants to come in have the service and they want to get out I always call on Reiki energy to help soothe them and make the experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Sometimes I’m my clients only break in the week so it’s very important to me they’re actually feeling like the time they’re with me is relaxing down time.

Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I’m a huge believer in what you put out into the universe is what you will get back. I also had my lovely astrologer tell me (as she tells all her clients) thoughts are things. You think things into reality whether they be good or bad. So basically you have the power to create your reality. With that being said that’s kind of how I live my life, I’m only human so I absolutely have my off days but that’s besides the point. The point is I have always believed I can do this. I told the universe what I wanted and I said I’m ready for whatever you’ve got to throw at me. I kid you not as soon as I said it, thought it, and
believed it the opportunities started to roll in. Some call that luck and others call it law of attraction, I think it all starts with your mindset. Of course there have been hick ups but instead of thinking of those things as bad luck I have thought them as a lesson I needed to learn during this journey and that there is always an opportunity that presents itself in those hick ups.
