Today we’d like to introduce you to Hunter McMillen.
Hunter, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
After working in the real estate industry for some time, I was getting tired of splitting my earnings with the broker above me. I knew I wanted to start my own business but I wasn’t sure what it would be yet. In the summer of 2016, I decided to purchase a beginner’s level camera and drone. I had fun for about a week and then I made the decision that at bare minimum, I wanted to at least earn my money back for the amount I had invested into the equipment. From there, I approached Butter Brook, a popular golf club in Westford, Massachusetts. I sat down with the owner and proposed that a new video, showcasing the club online, hole by hole, would reach new online customers.
This meeting presented my first project opportunity, to craft an advertisement. After this first job, I partnered up with my friend, Julien Salah and from there we went straight to work. Julien Salah became the co-founder of Berd’s Eye View and is originally from Los Altos, California. In the past Julien has had the privilege to learn and work with some of the best at Google. Julien was part of Google’s “Green Team” for 4 years along with shadowing a few employees from their Real Estate and Development team.
Since Berds Eye View was founded in September of 2016, its roots are grounded in online video advertising. Our client list includes many different types of businesses.
Everything from a new residential apartment community, to a top 100 golf course, (Golf Digest) to a newly opened restaurant, each advertisement we create is personalized to our clients’ needs and is focused specifically to their own target market.
We start by researching our client and writing the foundation of the message within the advertisement. Once this is done, our team films the content for the client and then our editors create the finalized video over and over until it is perfect. This process allows our team to create one very powerful video representing our client’s brand in the best possible way.
This summer we have had over 80 applicants for our internship program with students from Boston University, WPI, Suffolk University, Endicott College, Tufts, and 13 more universities in total. Everyone we hire brings something new to the table. We believe that it is 100% essential to have a strong team that believes in the idea of the company in order to be successful.
We are in the process of creating a new company and service that will offer the same services we do in Boston, but in every major city across the country. We are excited for the launching of this new service, stay tuned!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting my own business has been a great experience and I’ve learned so much in such a short period of time. I encourage anyone to try it some point in their life but understand that you have to truly believe in your idea bring a dream to fruition. We have been fortunate to not have any real struggles to mention in this interview.
If you ask me, it doesn’t really feel like I’m working because I enjoy building the business and I enjoy making videos and that’s what it is really important. If you like what you do and enjoy a typical Monday morning, that’s awesome. If you wake up excited to work because you know that you are growing your business and doing what you love, that’s awesome. That’s what I love about doing what I do.

What were you like growing up?
Basketball has always been my favorite sport. I played my whole life and some of my favorite memories are playing basketball with my Grandfather. Even to this day, we still make our way to the court to shoot, and it’s still one of my favorite things to do.
