Meet Amber Aquart of Pawsitive Development in Cambridge

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Aquart.

Amber, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I’m a certified professional dog trainer, a service dog academy graduate, and a certified trick dog instructor. I’ve been training dogs professionally since 2011 and am originally from Miami, FL. I started off teaching basic obedience lessons and doing trick and stunts with my personal dog, Tucker. I then moved onto teaching at Miami’s largest indoor training facility and quickly became one of their head trainers. I worked with hundreds of dogs, helping dogs recover from aggression, training service dogs, and building relationships with clients and their pups. I moved to Boston in March 2017 and began my own business. I currently offer training, off-leash hiking, pet photography and more. I’ve been a studio/production trainer as well and you may have seen one of my own dogs, Oakley, on Animal Planet’s Puppy Bowl! I love being able to help people develop better relationships with their dogs through positive training methods. I have the best job in the world!

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Moving to a brand new location was difficult as I left all of my clientele behind. Also, off-leash hiking was something that I had to learn along the way. Now I absolutely love it and it’s become one of my favorite things to do.

We’d love to hear more about your business.
I specialize in behavior modification for aggressive, reactive, and anxious dogs. I have a passion for working with service dogs, therapy dogs, and their handlers. My favorite thing to do is build a solid foundation and relationship with a dog and help them reach their potential, such as being off-leash reliable.

I recently started getting involved with being an “on-set” trainer, for TV, film, and print shoots. My personal dogs have been in several big productions and I am so proud of our accomplishments. I think that the thing I am best at is developing a life-long relationship with my clients and their dogs. I love being involved every step of the way and helping people and dogs effectively communicate with each other.

What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been obsessed with animals. Every photo or video of me is either with an animal, pretending to be an animal, or playing with stuffed animals. I’ve always been adventurous and love to explore.
