Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Vining.
Amanda, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I grew up in Medford so Boston has always been “home.” I branched out to western MA and attended UMASS Amherst graduating with honors and anticipating law school as my next step. I got into the schools I had hoped but was blown away by the amount of debt I would need to incur and quickly found myself at a crossroads of what was the right direction for my life. I started to think about why I wanted to be a lawyer and found myself thinking about the desire to captivate an audience as well as help people as my driving factors. I thought I’d be able to get an element of that in sales and figured I should give it a go before committing to more education.
I found myself selling telecommunications door to door, grueling work but it came easily to me. I loved the challenge of facing rejection and being forced to find a way to overcome it. I soon realized that I had a knack for selling but needed to find a company I was passionate about and could give me the type of rewarding career I hoped for. In 2007, I was fortunate enough to have a recruiter get me in to interview with Flight Centre who was just branching out with their corporate brands locally. I remember being intrigued, I was an avid traveler and I realized that corporate travel was normally in the top business expenses for companies, so knew there would be sustainability in the field.
My career was born from there and I spent the next several years navigating numerous sales positions within the business. I was able to bring on customers across so many different fields, many of which are changing the world in their science, discoveries, and various humanitarian initiatives. I found it humbling to play the small part in helping them get from place to place to do their great work. I soon learned I loved developing people and spent eight years in sales management. There is something so rewarding from going from an interview with an individual to watching them achieve their personal and professional goals. As time passed I learned I’d like to make an even bigger impact for our people but also in the landscape of who we are as a business.
In July I was promoted to oversee all of the Corporate Traveler as well as Stage and Screen Travel and am loving the ride so far.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
The landscape of business travel changes constantly. Technology interferes as do political climates and numerous other variables outside of our control. I don’t know that I would say that it’s always “smooth” but I would say it’s always sustainable and always exciting. We have been fortunate enough to experience consistent growth and have thrived even in the toughest of years due to our adaptability. Our business is flexible and molds to our customers’ needs which is essential in this industry.

Our business focuses on the many corporate customers who may be overlooked by some large market competitors. We thrive on offering a bespoke travel solution to the mid-market. Our goal is to be able to provide the cost savings & technological advancements of being part of one of the largest travel management companies in the world while at the same time offering high touch personalized service. Our Stage and Screen brand focus heavily on production, media, sport, and creative industries offering everything from one main point of contact to VIP after-hours support all for a lean fee model. Our Corporate Traveler brand does the same but for all types of corporate industries.
What sets us apart is our service, anyone can have great technology but I am confident that no one else could replicate our commitment to the customer that comes through in our dedicated service offering. We have the best salespeople, consultants, support teams, and client relationship managers in the industry. We also have the most incredible customers who have formed long-term partnerships, offered referrals, and continue to lead us in new directions that drive our business forward. I am incredibly proud of those who work for us and those who work with us.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is so bright in this space… I believe that a rewarding business culture leads to remarkable results so most of my plans are driven by finding the right balance of employee and customer desires. My plans are to continue to promote a culture of excellence in our business and to be ahead of the curve wherever possible.
In my opinion, business travel excellence comes from a perfect marriage of service and technology. We’ve just launched an app, SAM where we are providing innovation while at the same time keeping you tied to your dedicated consultant. We are so fortunate in that we specialize in the mid-market and there is infinite growth potential, it sounds corny but really the sky is the limit!
