Meet Amanda Cort of Xtend Barre Newbury Street in Back Bay

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amanda Cort.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I found Xtend Barre while living in Sydney, Australia and just HAD to open one in my hometown of Boston! It was the best workout I had ever done and knew I couldn’t live without it when I moved back home, there was no way I could go back to the other barre I was doing previously once I was hooked on Xtend!

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Yes and no. Yes because we are growing and thriving but no because there are always obstacles to overcome when building a new business. I think some struggles are letting people know that we are different than your average barre workout found at our competitor’s locations. There are truly no other classes like Xtend but because people see “barre” they assume they already know what we’re all about.

Xtend Barre Newbury Street – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Xtend Barre is about movement. We specialize in group fitness classes for anybody, any BODY, any age, any fitness level. We’re a combination of dance, ballet, Pilates, and cardio for a full body workout. What really sets us apart and what we’re known for is that no two classes are ever the same, we’re fast paced and high energy, and we have the added cardio element that our competitors lack. Our classes are open level so you can modify or advance through all of our exercises. Aside from our signature barre class, we offer other programming including Xtend Suspend (TRX), Xtend Sweat (HIIT), Xtend Stick (Pilates apparatus), and Babies on Board (mommy and me class). We’re most proud of all of the above!

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success as being known as the best. We were awarded Best of Boston by Boston Magazine after being open for only two months and have gotten only BETTER since. Whenever new clients come in that have tried other barre methods, they always declare our method as the best and are SO happy they found us!
